Sounds like too much fun JD!!! I'm kinda glad I backed out on going with you because unfortunately I have a "gambling problem" too, LOL! I just told the wifey today about the new 180 gal that I'm getting tomorrow and...... haha..... well, I'm in the jailhouse(doghouse) now. You guys have fun and be careful And call me if you find something at the auction that would look nice in my new tank!!!! Let me know if you see any Black Barred Silver $$$, Rich on MFK has em' for $10 ea, if there aren't any @ the ACA then I'm gonna order a handful from Rich. How is everything up there? I bet there are some cool booths setup and I'm sure meeting and listening to all the speakers there are awesome?!

Well damn, I didn't see this post in time. They sold 3 black barred silvers tonight in the Friday auction for $18. They were pretty small.
I just bought a pair of my dream fish. I was hoping to wait to buy anything until Sunday but the auction tonight had a pair of paretroplus maculatus. So I spent entirely to much and had a mad rush in my room to get my 20g setup. They are doing great at the moment. Lets just hope I get them home alive and well. They are an awesome fish and are nearly extinct.

Are the Madagascars Paretroplus nourissati ? They're amazing! There were 2 bags of three of these sold tonight angel! They were the only 6 at the convention other then one adult show fish. I wanted to get one group but both went at $200. I had decided $150 was my cut off. Looking back I don't think I could buy 3 of them online for that price so maybe I should have bid more. I have to show some constraint though

Nice pickup on the paretroplus maculatus! Sounds like you might be buying a few more tanks while your up there just to have a place to keep them until you leave. The silver $$$ that Rich have are 2" so I'm really not that worried about them being small, rather than ones that are bigger than 5-6" until I get my 180 setup. A group of 6-7 would fit nicely in the new tank I think. Keep me posted on some Altifrons too(Tocantins, Negro, Manuas etc, just no Tapajos) BTW, if you do get some fish for me and have to buy anything to keep them in your hotel room, let me know and I'll pay for it, plus some!!! Wish I was there!!! Keep us posted on the rare ones that show up.

There are some 1.5" tocantins in the sale room for $4 each. I was going to wait and see if they make it to the auction. There were at least 40 of them. Haven't seen anything else very rare other then a lot of new gymno's and the couple of madagascars. There should be a lot of fish brought in just for the auction on Sunday though. There are also some great looking pleco's!!!!

hahaha I'm so miserable that there are Madagascars and I can't get to them! I hope this thing is somewhere I can get to next year because there's no way I'll be booking work for the weekend and Dennis is not allowed to do anything for the kids beforehand. Nothing will get in my way!

Let me know if they have any cool Madagascars I want. I like the paretroplus menarambo if you see any of those I would like to know about them. Any really! But I can't spend $200 on three fish so the one species was out of the question. But I still want them!

There's only one show pin strip dambia here angel. I doubt any new ones will show up for the auction tommorrow. They are more common in the fish trade then what sold last night though so you can find them online from time to time. Ones that are any size will cost you $50 each as a bare minimum though. It is believed they are completely extinct in the wild now. If you want any of these guys you will need a big tank. They get about 10" and do a lot of swimming.

JD- I will need that oxygen. I am getting 25 plecos sometime today. I'll call you tonight or see you tomorrow. We are meeting some friends tonight from college so I won't be at the convention. Lot's of beer and rock band is on the agenda ;D. I'll have the tank in my car tommorrow so we can just hit them before the auction starts. I have a few fish to pick up in the morning the sellers are holding for me. SO far I've bought Partroplus Maculatus pair Female HRP rio monga Crenicichla Johanna wild female I'll probably only stay for a couple hours of the auction tommorrow. I want to get the maculatus home fairly quickly. angel - I think the convention is in Minnesota next year. I believe I heard someone say that.

Well I'll just start saving for plane fare. Hey I have a free fare on Continental now I've saved up enough air miles--I might get there for nothin'! We'd just have to pay for Dennis' fare and figure out how to get the fish back here on the plane.

The maculatus is gorgeous, JD. I've been reading up on them today. It seems they can have quite a nasty disposition with each other. I've also been reading a bit about the Crenicichla Johanna since I"ve never heard of it. On one site it said they have not bred in captivity but the writer predicted that would change soon as more people became interested in the fish. I don't know how accurate that is. Do you have a male to go with the female you bought? In the pics I saw the male and female are both very attractive with the male (i'm assuming it was the male) sporting some striking red coloration. www.geocities.com/napavalley/5491/johannapage.html
