What about setting up a paypal account for the club? It might make it easier for us not in Nash. area for dues, and any other things we need to kick in the kitty for. What do you think? Just a thought.

Great idea! I've been using PayPal since 2001 and have found that it is a very secure source of online payment and can be linked to a real bank account. You can also get a "business" debit card to charge purchases to your PayPal account.
Whenever the club is up and running, I'm guessing the Treasurer would be responsible for this.

It's not a bad idea. I've had one person steal the identity of my PayPal account once and use it to pay their seller fees on eBay, though. And I stay behind a router and don't give my personal info out, but wherever there's a security measure there are 10 people figuring a way to get through it. The other thing I don't like about PayPal is that they're in it to make money, and as such, they take a portion of everything paid in. For a site I'm part owner on, 4 of us pay in to server fees once a year. If paid by PayPal, I had to ask the others to pay extra to cover the fees PayPal takes. So $15 or $20 would become $16 or $21 roughly.

I think remote members could send dues via personal check, money order, etc. I'm sure a bank account would be created solely for the club funds. All of this can be worked out once we're up and running.

The fees aren't that bad, it would be $1.00 per $24.00 and could be added to the dues if paid via Paypal. Mike

I don't have a problem with paypal, I use it with my business, but I haven't mastered it yet.

I have to get a business ID to get an account for the club. I couldn't open the account with JD without it. I will work on getting that this week and then JD and I will get back together.

I won't touch paypal either. Started using it in 1999 and I won't touch it again or recommend it to anybody. It is not secure if you attach it to your bank account especially that is a bad thing. I had over 2000 paypal transactions before somebody got into my account. Paypal was horrible to deal with to get it fixed.
Personally I think check/money order is a better way to go but that is just me.

That will work as well, make checks out to Music City Aquarium Association.
Did paypal help you straighten the mess out? Did they get into your paypal account, or both paypal and your attached account?

So, do I read the above correctly that it is time to make out a check to Music City Aquarium Association or is paypal up and running for the same ? And if we are to write a check where , or to whom will we be mailing it to ?

I am waiting until paypal verifies the account. Hold on to your check until we get it straight. When I get J.D. on the account you can mail to him or me. Make them out to Music City Aquarium Association.
