Ever have a fish die that looked right as far as being not bloated, no scales or fins removed, clear and bright eyes and color, but its gills were all puffed out and its mouth was open? Other than that it looked like a normal healthy fish! What could it be?

Could be Gill flukes, chlorine or other type of poisoning. Wrer the gills dark red, or white then see above.

sounds to me like some kind of poisoning, but with a dead fish it is hard to tell exactly.
Pink Gills is healthy.
Red Gills normally flukes or some kind of infection.
White Gills is lack of oxygen / poisoning that has effected the gills from absorbing oxygen.

I never imagined there would be poisoning possible in one of my tanks. I wonder what it could have been? And for all the others to not be affected too. Would that indicate it was likely ingested?
