I got me a 55g off of craigs and will be picking it up on friday.I want to take my male and female Rotkeils severums and put them together with out the distraction of other large fish. I would like to see some baby redheads in the future. Question is, what else should i put there to make it all nice and homie for them. Something smaller with colors that will get along for a while. I have an "Adonis" placo that will go in there when it gets a bit larger and a few snails. Also thinking about a finer material for the bottom, maybe like a course sand and larger pebbles. The tank comes with 2 HOB filters but will get maybe a 2217 when cash allows. Has heater and power head. Any and all comments welcome...

Awesome John. Glad you found another tank. I wouldn't do much else if you are hoping for breeding. Maybe a small group of cory cats.
I will have several of the albino bristlenose pleco's that you liked ready by the fish swap in Sept if you still want some of them.
Sev pair 5 cory's 2-3 BN plecos
I think this would look nice and not be real high maintenence.

I'll try to make sure I have plenty. I had my first spawn of them. Looks like I'm going to end up with about 15 little ones. They should be close to 1" by swap. I also plan to pick up a few more and some long finned ones at some of the other auctions so I should have plenty to sell/trade.
They really are great little alge eater. They aren't messy and they stay small and look really cool.
Did you end up with a male or a female angel?

The males have the wild looking bristles coming out of there face and the female do not. As the males mature there bristles can get pretty large.

It's a girl. Now to figure out what the big plain pleco is. I thought for sure it was gonna lay eggs a couple days ago. But it might have just eaten a lot.

I read an article and it looks like that one's probably a girl too. But the article said don't bother putting two commons in unless you have a tank over 200 gallons or they'll fight over territory. So as long as if she gets full of eggs she won't die it's cool.

Pool filter sand would look nice and is cheap. There are couple of stores in Gallatin that sell it.

Pool filter sand is absolutely the best option. You don't really even have to clean it. The other types of sand are a pain to get clean before use. I get it at a pool supply store for $10 for a 50 lb. bag.

I have snails breeding like mad in sand. Granted they're trumpet snails but they seem to love the stuff.

So I got the 55 all set up and running. It has 2, 300hob filters, I bought a new heater and a power head with a old sponge on it. I put in 2 of my Giant Dano's from my 125 that I have had for about 1 1/2 yrs, they look big in there, and my Bolivian Ram. I bought like 6 cherry barbs and some other little reddish blackish fish. I put in like 20 gal of water from my 125 and let it start running. I painted the back and like the way it turned out. White sand and terra cotta , a few fake plants and will let it run and see what happens. JD, you still have them BN placos ? were they albino or yellow or ? here it is... what ya think ?? looks cool with just small fish in there
