So I came to Florida to spend thanksgiving with my folks. I visited this shop here called Water World. Which is top notch, this place has all kinds of salt and fresh, and know everything about all of them. So I found their fronts and one thing led to another, and 'BAM!' impulse buy! So, here I sit, in Florida, with a styrofoam box with two little Fronts inside, trying to keep them warm, until I get them home tomorrow around noon. Luckily he filled the bag with O2. Later, I start thinking, most of my fish wont get very big, the fronts will. Will they be pricey snacks? I need a larger tank as well now, they won't like a 55 for very long!

Haha thats funny. I sold my wife on the idea of getting our second tank a while back, that it would be "her" tank. I let her pick a few inhabitants. Sometimes, when I don't feel like doing water changes, I remind her that it's "her" tank.
Sadly, one of the Fronts died overnight. We are going to leave for home in about 2 hours, so that will make about 6 hours until the remaining guy makes it to my tank.
I hope I wasn't the cause. I was worried about their temp dropping too low. So I put a towel in the dryer for 10 minutes then put it in the box. I checked it this AM, and one is a little discolored and upside down! So it goes, I guess.

Well, I am home, and seem to have a very healthy little guy in my shellie tank. I figured I would let him chill out in the low stress tank, I was expecting him to die too after all. He is eating and rooting around in the sand. Funny thing is, he made a rather large shell his home. A frontosa shell dweller!
Angel, yeah there was a lot of waste in the bag. Way more than one would expect. I guess these things happen when you take a young fish against its will, in a plastic baggie, over night to another state.

It just made me think of when we were getting ready for the swap, and the JGentry and Titansfever83 were saying how it's important to not feed the fish a day or two before the swap because of the amount of waste in the bag being toxic, and they wouldn't eliminate as much if they were not fed. It makes sense. And the guy you bought them from probably had fed them so they had full bellies but didn't get the advantage of less waste. Could have been it possibly. Except the other one made it, so who knows?

Yeah I don't know what it was. She (I think, I tried to get the smallest one and the biggest one) died within 4 hours so who knows.

I would say about 3 inches for the one that survived. The other, probably 2.5

That must be a really big shell in your tank! Do you know what variant of frontosa you bought?

mruble, It was a Kavalla F1. Yeah, the shell is huge. www.cichlidbreeding.com/proddetail.php?prod=tonnaoleriaI couldn't believe how big they were when we got them. They list them for medium size shellies. We had a few Ornatipinnis at the time so we ordered those and a few other. They turned out to be too much for the Ornatipinnis, he prefers turbos shells from the local craft store. My calvus love the big ones though.
