It's a little late, but since I have successfully kept bettas and guppies together in the past, I figured I'd chime in.
A sorority (3) of Betta females are much easier to keep with guppies. Generally, guppy females and female bettas can co-exist with no problems (and there are some very colorful female guppies nowadays). It is possible to keep betta females with guppy males, but you have to figure out which colors the f. bettas don't like. In my case, it was blue. However, they did not mind bright yellow male guppies, and would only harass him maybe once a year when his tail got SUPER long. It is really trial and error, and from people I have talked to, the color varies, but there is normally a male guppy color that they don't mind.
If someone decides to do female bettas, there should only be 3 together ideally and they should all be added at the same time, and for a couple weeks, they will nip each other to setup a pecking order. However, eventually, they will setup a hierarchy. They will however, occasionally still pick on the lowest on the totem pole by nipping fins, normally never to the point of killing or stressing.
I've never bred bettas though. So I was curious, what size tank did you use to raise the fry Angel?

I started them in a 10 gallon, and within 2 weeks transferred them to a 20L. When I could start to tell which ones were male I began pulling them into jars.
