Cool pick up. You would be amazed how nice some of the little fish from streams around here look in tanks. Unfortunately unless you have a chiller it can be hard to keep them healthy long term and some of them are hard to get to eat. Sunfish are the exception. They do well in fairly warm water and will eat anything.
About 4 years ago I had 8 darters and 4 madtom catfish that I collected in a stream right next to my house. They did well during the summer but I lost a few in the winter. I moved the tank out to my unheated garage and they seemed to be much happier. All died within 1.5 years though.
If anyone is really interested in Natives there is an excellent Fish of Tennessee hardback book that contains tons of info. There are native for everyone. Darters for color and a challenge. Sunfish for ease of care and nice color. Bass for personality, pickeral for the predator lovers, etc.

Yeah, the redfins are great. They stay nice and small. Don't look quite as good as the grass ones but are a better aquarium fish.

I had a 240 native tank for a few years. By far my favorite is the bowfin Hands down. I had a male and every spring and fall he would be blasting with color

Just updating the original post. My tank of natives is doing fantastic. now that they are all aclimated and have made themselves to home i just love it. I will sit and watch them just because they are so active. The sculpin has amost doubled in size. I discovered it loves ghost shrimp! And watching him stalk one and jump on it is much fun. i am thinkin of going to the creek and trying to find some more before it gets too much colder. I think by looking at the crays it looks like i have 3 different kinds. 3 of them look alike and then there are 2 that do not look like the other 3 or each other. They entertain me with all of their rock moving, they have really tore up the gravel and have tunnels and holes all over the place. i will keep you all posted.

If it was new, it came with a warranty. Tho if it's in the trash that won't do any good now . OMG! Was it one of the ones that was on recall recently? Compaq/HP? The batteries were frying and even causing some to catch fire!
