I've noticed that a couple of my newest zebras are starting to turn a yellowish color. Not sure of the ammonia and nitrite levels at the moment, as I had to trash my test tubes due to staining. However, I did perform a 40% water change Friday evening. I've also read that zebras will adapt their coloring to the environment. Should I be alarmed? They're all very active at the moment, chasing each other around the tank. I can post pics as needed. Just need to get them to stay still long enough to catch them!

So almost an hour after I mention this, the danios are showing less yellow. I'm thinking it could be the lighting. I have 1 25-watt T5, 6700k, and a 14-watt T8, full spectrum (guessing), and I think the ballast in the T8 fixture needs to be replaced because the bulb takes a little while to "warm up". The fixture is an AllGlass style 24", which was used when I got it.

I don't know anything about danios but lots of fish can change colors depending on mood and environment too. So it could maybe be something like that if not lighting?

I'm thinking this is a false alarm.
All of the zebras have some color variations in them, from light green to slightly yellow. I read somewhere that males can have yellow stripes between the blues and females have silver & blue stripes. These 2 were purchased about 2 weeks after the first 6 and are smaller than the rest, so I bet they're still just adolescents.
Now I need some cories to contrast the colors of the danios and the substrate! Just waiting on my extra water test tubes to arrive before I add more fish!
BTW, the 29 is clean, but I think during the silicone removal from the walls, I created a leak or two. Waiting for all of the water to dry before I try re-caulking all joints.

Oops! I'd not want that job! Yup, big oopsie there! The suspected leak is at the bottom. If it doesn't hold water, I can at least sell it as a reptile or hermit crab tank.

Update on the yellow danio: I'm starting to think that this may actually be a hybrid yellow/golden longfin zebra. Its color has not changed since November, and I know the water quality is good (still haven't killed any ottos).
