I've tested my aquaclear 30, three times now, and it failed every time! The other day I was painting the dining room. I had to unplug the tank to paint around the outlet. I decided to leave the tank down, for the third time, for one hour. I made sure that the tank was full of water and that the filter was sitting level on the back of the tank. After one hour, I looked at the filter and most of the water had drained out of it! I plugged it in and it never was able to pull the water back into the filter! I had to fill the filter by hand again! I had two more new filters for the 75 gallon tank, which is not set up yet. They went back to petsmart! No more aquaclear's for me! This was a new filter. I've only had it a couple of month's maybe. I had heard that this was a problem and others said it wasn't. We'll for me, the verdict is in. They are good filters while running, but I hope your power doesn't go off for an hour or more and your out of town. You could have some bad problems when you return! If you use aquaclears, I would recommend that you perform the same test. Warning: You may not like the outcome though!

Had it happen yesterday. Grandson tripped the switch on the power supply and one of them was on it. Drained out. I noticed later and flipped the switch back on. It filled right up and ran again. Maybe just hit or miss.

Of course I"m talking an aquaclear 70. Now that I think of it I have some tiny ones that don't cut it.

I have three 110's all but one would stop working for no reason. I changed the impellers, which aquaclear sent and after a couple of months they would stop again. When I called customer service they said I would need to send the filters back to them and if needed they would replace the motor. To get them started I would have to reach in and play with the impeller to get it to start running. I don't buy filters so I have to send them back, they should have some quality assurance in place. I now have one 110 and a Fluval 405 on the tank. If the 110 stops running I will most likely add another Fluval 405 as a mechanical filter. These use to be one of the best power filters on the market. I wish supreme still made power filter they would last forever and only had to oil them once or twice a year.
I did have a few 70's that were working just fine but don't you know they will not fit on a all-glass 75 or larger.

I have the same problem. Mine always shuts off and I have to pull out the intake and poke the impeller with my finger.

I've got two of your 70's Joe and they work fine. I didn't think about it before today though, I do have trouble with the smaller ones.

I know that they are not the best filters around, but you can't beat a whisper! You can shut them down as long as you want to and they will restart everytime! At least the new style whisper's have media for good bacteria to build up on, even though it's plastic. I have a whisper 45 on each of my 46 gallon tanks and they are plenty powerful enough for them and they are like the ever-ready bunny, they keep going and going........... LOL. I returned the two aquaclear 70's and got two of the new style whisper 45's to put on my 75. If one works great on a 46, then two should work great on a 75. We'll know before long!
