Rick Easterly emailed me tonight with a great find. We have had the forum up and running for a year now. The club is finally coming together and we have a swap coming up. We have come a long way, and hopefully we can double in size by this time next year.

What a terrific goal !!! ------- Just 1 year ago on this date 2 hobbyists had just been chit-chatting via e-mail about their love of fish/plants/hardware/and everything else we have and do within this great hobby we call the husbandry of fish. Two hobbyists just talking who said, "hey, why not form a club in our area so others that we don't know (as of yet) can join in ?" Then thru some dedicated and very time consuming labor on the parts of Tina (aka Angel) and Jon, a fish club/forum was begun. There were several other origional members who stepped in and assisted the beginnings of the forum that we now are using and enjoying each and every day. -------- One year later--from 2 talking hobbyists to 115 members, @ present, and a forum for all to enjoy. WOW ! ----- And now we have the second swap/meet planned for March 25,2010; the first being held on September 20,2009. This club is a dream come true for several members who have imagined a local club in our area for many years. >> We each now have a part to play our roles within "our club." << Whether you are going to be an officer, future officer, forum contributor, paying and active member, or simply a forum contributing friend that just enjoys the company of communicating with fellow hobbyists, we each have a role to play to help "our club" grow and find future potential(s) within each of us. Lets all continue to share the good news of our clubs existance with all who are interested in our wonderful hobby, invite them to our swaps/meetings, and find our active roles to keep this club growing. Just wonder where the club will be in another year ? >> It will be interesting to re-read this then and reflect. << What a wonderful country we live in to be blessed with the opportunity to have such a fantastic opportunity to make and keep new friends, possibly for a lifetime ! Thank you, Tina and Jon, for this opportunity for all of us !!!
I for one would like to hear more in this thread from Jon and Tina about just what has materilized within this club since they first started chatting about it,; and I think it would be great if as many members as wish to, would post their thoughts on what this club means to them.
I, for one, can tell you, I have been keeping fish since I was 5 or 6 years old, when I started with a 5 gallon metal framed, slate bottom Metaframe tank, 4 goldfish and a pleco. Now, about 45 years later, having never given up fish, I have a 1/2 garage full of tanks, love this hobby as much if not more than I ever have, and have dreamed ever since I was a little boy, that some day there would be a local fish club and I would get to be a part of it. This is a childs dream come true for me. Quick somebody pinch me. :-)

Roger, JD, Fishme, Tony, Travis, Jamie, and a few others all joined the first few weeks. I needed to have a place to talk about fish where I wasn't in a petstore with my credit card in hand(bad combo). I have always focused on africans, but I have been able to learn about other fish as well, which I love. I have received as much advice as I have given, hopefully everyone else has as well.
After being a member at 5 or 6 other sites, I realized I would probably never meet most of the people I was talking to. It wasn't personal. My main goal, which I think was others was and is to have the same deal, just locally, where we can have swaps and meets and get to know and learn from each other on a level greater than just a screen name.
We have a lot of knowledgeable members here, and I know there are more out there that haven't found us yet.

I have not spent nearly as much time here as I should. I love the hobby, and really like Jon. I hope I have been of some help in a small way to you. I am a avid cichlid keeper. I have learned a lot from others and try to pass my knowledge on. I will be here if anyone needs me.

I've learned so much since finding Jon on CraigsList and then a small group of others who knew him(Joe, Jamie, JD, Fishme, etc) and then more who knew them or found us through what started as a forum and then grew into a club as well--it's incredible. And out in the community(Rick has already testified to this one) what Dennis and I were hearing is "we've looked for something like this, we've needed something like this, why doesn't Nashville have its own fish hobbyist club." I know most of you have heard it too. Now we do. While I've kept a small amount of fish almost my entire life(one or two tanks at a time) this thing has exploded thanks to everyone here who has introduced us to more kinds of fish and more ways to keep them. We've come a LONG way but there's still a long way to go--so everyone that loves fish knows we're here and can join in the fun or just ask questions. So kids growing up in the area that are like many of you and have loved watching a water world in their own homes know ways to care for them at home and in the environment. And so they'll be there to take this club into the new generations now that it's formed. I had no idea it was our anniversary--Happy Anniversary Forum Members!!
