I had mentioned that Saturday we were in Henry County for their prom, and how the trip was longer due to flood. Sunday, the grandsons were here. Daughter couldn't get through any road to pick them up after work, so we searched til we found a clear road. Then picked up a shop vac, since runoff water was filling the fishrooms with 2 inches of water. One of the snails escaped his tank and was checking out the water on the floor LOL On the way back from getting the shop vac, the road home flooded over. While we were on it! The truck got stuck in waist-deep water, and we couldn't walk against the current safely. So we walked back about 2 miles to high ground, and called for daughter to pick us up. The water was filling up the road as we walked so it was further and further to find dry ground, and the rain started down again pretty heavy. Later on that night we went back and the truck started so all seems to be ok, besides trying to get the water out of the interior. What stories do you all have ?

You're lucky, Phil. We were in Camden when the flood was coming over the street, and when we were at dinner a guy was telling Mark and Dennis the catfish restaurant in Camden had water not so far from the roof.

We all kno that Opryland Hotel was flooded. A posting on facebook asked about the fish in the Aquarium Resturant in the hotel. The other asked about them at the mall in the Rainforest Cafe'. Some said "I guess they are a victim of the flood" or "They now have the run of the Hotel". All kidding aside; does anyone know what happened or what will happen to them? I understand that fish are not a priorty to most people; but I saw them rescuein' dogs and cats on the news and asking for "Foster care" or temporary homes for them.

You know how that goes. Fish are things. They're seldom regarded the same way we see them in these places. But I'd think it would be difficult to find a fish in a raging flood. This river just swept in . The koi might be ok, but that puts them in the wild here. I'm not sure about the others--can't remember what was there. I was in the mall once, but it was a long while ago. Believe it or not, I've not yet played in the hotel. So I haevn't been in there. I've played in the other big hotels here but not that one.

And a few more thoughts on this no matter if we like it or not is... fish are not considered pets to most folks like dogs and cats are. We can go to many resturants and on the menu is fish, but when is the last time you ordered an entree of dog or cat ? We love our pets, some of us even name them, but they are not seen as pets. Just a fact we hobbyists/breeders have to accept I reckon.
I would assume the goldfish and koi from the hotel will be found in the hotel later in various places unless they have excaped to the river, and I would assume they will survive in the river if they made it to the wild. The tropical fish, the freshwater ones, if any, from the mall will die d/t to cool of temps. if they excaped and any slatwater ones will be dead also, if excapes occured. Sad, huh ? There sure has been lots of loss all over around here in the last few days. The news media is calling it a 1 in 1000 year event.

I would be shocked if the flood damaged the tank inside the mall. It's not like it was a tidal wave that knocked out the whole place... I'm sure that the owner of that restaurant prizes their fish if for no other reason than the huge investment they represent.

Even if the tank is still there, it's not airtight and watertight, obviously. They have to get in to feed them. Whatever top is on it would float off, if there even is a top. And that's if the tanks aren't destroyed. Another tank would be the least of the problems, mall developers and shopkeepers have money and insurance. I think the concern is for the fish, and they certainly would not still be sitting in their tanks when there's water all around.

I haven't been watching the news yesterday... did the water go up over the top of the buildings at the mall? OOOHHH, what about the stingray pond?!?!?
Anyone know if everyone at The Critter is ok?

Haven't heard anything about The Critter. I did hear that the Opryland Hotel was evacuated and it would be months before it's open again . At first they were only worried about the first floor. It doesn't sound good. Stingray pond? Oops! That would probably have overflowed pretty quick. It's unreal how high the rivers have gone. The Cumberland river was originally to crest at 50 ft then it was said yesterday parts would crest at 60 ft! Imagine--that's way deep.

I just talked to Chris - everyone is ok, no damage there, but he said that they expect to lose every animal at the aquarium restaurant due to lack of power, and that they expect to find stingrays swimming around the mall!!! I wonder if the stingrays have their stingers bound?? I've never been in there...
This is so crazy! Water damage can be so bad! By my house, a bunch of new restaurants and shops just openned, less than a month ago for some, and now they are under water!!

The stingers drop off and regenerate a few times a year. No matter what measures are taken there's always room for error. The stingers remain poisonous while off the animal. I don't know how those stingrays could survive it--they need clean, superfiltered, warm water. Not cool. I feel so bad for those businesses that are small and possibly have no flood insurance. I heard from an agent here that several of his businesses didn't buy flood insurance and he can't help them at all.

Wow discocham you had a pond for a while instead of a yard. I'm afraid to ask if any of the garden plants survived it.
