Well now I feel confident about my announcement. My fire fin comps I bought from Jon at the last meet have spawned. I was so afraid that something would go wrong that I was not going to say much about them. They were in the 45 breeder and mommy wasn't letting me near the cave. She would wedge herself into the cave so getting it from her was out of the question. After over a week I started to worry. She was still not going anywhere away from her cave and I wanted to move them. So last week I moved the cave (of course she was wedged in it) to a 5 gallon. I have been feeding her and putting vinegar eels close to the cave. She bit me one day cause I guess I was too close. Well I shined a flashlight into the cave last night and there is a bunch of them swimming around. I told my hubby that she wasn't going to be able to keep them contained too much longer. Well tonight when I fed her there were 3 of the little guys just outside of the cave. She scooped them up and put them back in the cave. I was excited to finally really see them. So as soon as they are swimming around I hope to catch her and put her back in her tank. I have a 20 getting ready for the babies. I have no idea how many there yet. I know there looked like a lot of them in the cave. I will try to get pics as soon as I can. Ok I have rambled on enough about this. I am stoked!! Well today I tricked the female into the net and put her back with the male. I know there are over 50 babies in there. Got some pics nothing fantastic but picture just the same. About as good of a close up I can get I will try later for a better pic.

Picture of the parents as they give me the "evil eye". I swear the female knows I have them. LOL.. the male is the one in front.

She seemed like she was actually pouting when you showed me her! It was funny, but pitiful. Poor thing--she'll just need to have more!

She is still pouting. But it looks like they are digging around one of the texas holy rocks. Maybe they will spawn again. I had hoped they would wait till I could get the cave back in there. If they use the holy rock I will never get the fry out of the tank. Probably their master plan. LOL.

Well the comp parents are definately setting up to spawn again. So I will have more babies in the near future. I got some new pics of the babies. They are still small growing but not as fast as what I am used to. Hard to get good pics of them now that they are more active too. I did count over 50 and I am sure I missed some of them. So it looks like I will have a bunch of them. Now I have to wait for them to grow.

Compressiceps and calvus are probably the slowest growing fish in the hobby.

Then the magical mystery fry, who is not a fry anymore being that he's over a year old, must think he's one. He's still about 1.25 inches! He SHOULD be either a peacock or an acei. Counseling is in order.
