lfs charge a premium for holey rock. $4 a pound? crazyyyyyy. i've had good success with baragining with them for larger pieces.
actually i am kind of over holey rock. it looks awesome but it's impossible to keep clean. its also so big and heavy i am scared it will fall or i will drop it and it will break the glass.
i'm considering moving to a more natural habitat rock like grey river rock or grey limestone.

Yeah if i do holey rock I want to get mid size one and stack them. i dont really want one huge rock even though they do look awesome. I have the same fear about dropping them lol.

glenoweth you need to talk to Jon, the administrator here, about holey rock. He usually has great pieces for a good price.

I'm so jealous! This tank looks AWESOME! One question though, I thought you weren't supposed to mix Malawi with Tangs? Maybe they do well b/c you have so many and such a large tank. Very nice tank!

they can mix, just sometimes tangs fins get nipped by the malawi, but malawi dont recognize the tangs as being a threat so for the most part there is less aggression. i wouldnt mix tropheus and some featherfins, but julis, comps, calvus, leleupi, fronts, and a few others do fine.

what john said. they do fine for me.
the comps and calvus have very tough outer skin that can actually tear the lips of attackers. if anyone tries to mess with them, they curve away from the aggressor to expose their sharp scales.
i'll have to start thinning this tank out in another 6 months at the rate these guys are growing.
