My favorite dog in the whole world is ill from some type of poison. I thought it could be a neighbor scared of pit bulls, but after doing some research it could have been the food, IAMS. He has total kidney failure. My friend in Jackson feeds his dog the same food, and his dog is getting put to sleep this Monday. Check out this weblink- www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/iams.htmlIt might be that I am just looking somewhere to put blame, but I am still going to have my vet check into it. I am going to bring him home next week, and spoil him, and then he will be put to sleep the next week some time. The worst part is getting upset with him for going to the bathroom inside. He couldn't help it, and I didn't know he was dying. It makes me feel terrible. Josie is sick too, but nothing like Jax.

I know how you feel, and am terribly sorry. You'll give him a great week. Doing what you need to do for him will be anything but easy, but is the humane thing to do. Let us know what you find out about the Iams. I had read it was only cat food, but our vet just approved Iams for Alfie, and if there's something we don't know we need to switch.

The recall is all dry food www.iams.com/iams/en_US/data_root/html/recall_message.htmlThis video was an undercover PETA tape done at IAMS where they were testing dog food on dogs. I read somewhere else they were getting sick, but didn't do the recall for financial reasons. I think they knew that the cause/ effect is really hard to prove in court, and expensive. I still don't know what made Jax sick, but hopefully the vet switching his diet might give him a few more weeks. IAMS is off the menu for sure. Taking it all back to Petsmart today.

Has he had these vomiting and diarrhea symptoms like the other dogs ? This is distressing. There are a LOT of people on that first site that have had the same issue.

Jon, what formula were you feeding Jax? The recall page says only veterinary formulas, but the first page you posted has the green bag of proactive large breed a LOT, and occasionally lamb and rice. I don't know that they've gone far enough with this recall to cover all the contamination yet. If so, there needs to be even more done to hold them accountable and get the crap off the market. We have lamb and rice here. I'll call the vet in the morning to see what they know.

I think the Vet formula might be the normal stuff they sell. I haven't heard back from my vet yet either, but they said it was everything made in the Ohio plant- 800,000 40 lb bags worth. I am pretty sure the Ohio plant food would be distributed here. I saw a lot of them that were lamb and rice large breed too.
I don't know about any of this other than what I have looked around for last night. I just wanted everyone to know just in case. IAMS isn't the only dog food that sells premium food with Chinese or sub par ingredients.

Thanks, dogs are so sweet and innocent, even the big ones.
Josie has been throwing up today so I have to take her in for a check up tomorrow.

I hope Josie will be ok. I have 2 big dogs and a wienie dog in our house. They are our hairy kids. When something goes south with them they cannot tell you what is wrong. Hugs from here I am sure your family needs it right now.

I am going to be posting on craigslist the next few days about this seeing if anyone else in the area had the same problem with the same dog food.

Very sorry to hear that Jon. Your dogs seemed like they were very personable and low key. That sucks in multiples.

Called our vet's office and talked to one of the techs. She said although they've had no sick dogs come in, and although it's veterinary formulas and Eukanuba that are targeted in the recall, she would play it safe and switch to another food til this is solved. And asked about the dates on the bag, saying that the dates match up to the ones in concern. Also, they weren't informed of which plant the bad food was coming from, but said don't worry about which plant just do what's best for the dog til we're told everything is ok.
