Today, the Rena Smart Heater on my wife's tank at work stuck. When she discovered the problem, the water was 90 degrees! She lost five colombian tetras and possibly her kribensis unless it's hiding in its stump. So, I have to go there in the morning to install a new heater and see if there are any further casualties, do a water change, etc.. She was able to dip about five gallons of the hot water out and replace it with fresh cooler water. She left the heater unplugged when she came home of course, so we'll see what tomorrow brings.
Any one else had/heard of this issue with the Rena Smart Heaters? I know all heaters have the potential for this. Couldn't find any other accounts online tonight stating that they had stuck on. I have them on a couple other tanks and trying to make a decision as to what to do. Hopefully this was just a fluke and we got a lemon.
Always something!

I hope you just got a lemon. I have never heard of the rena smart heaters having any problems. Good luck I hope you have no more casualties.

I think so too. It ended up being four Colombian tetras and the krib that we lost. Water was 80 when I got there and no more casualties. Did a water change and got the new heater in.

I feel your pain as I have had a heater go crazy and cook a tank. I caught an other one before there was any damage. I keep an eye on any tank with a heater now.

I just hate heaters. Cooked a couple tanks in my time.

This is a first for me, after hearing all the horror stories from other people. Replaced with with a visi-therm.
