What types of filters does everyone have on their tanks? On my 125 I have 2 eheim 2217's. I think they are some of the better valued filters, I also like fluval because they have higher flow rates. I prefer canisters, but I don't really have a choice because I pushed the tank too close to the wall. I like canisters also because the only media I change is the filter floss in the top once every 4-5 months depending on the flow rate. I don't use any carbon, and I have my spray bars below water surface angling up to agitate the water.

I have different filters on each tank, but my favorites are the AquaClear, and I'm trying to like the biowheel one too, though it's stopped a couple of times on me. I like the idea! On my 125 I have an AquaClear 110 and a Whisper 20/40, and I have two airstone ornaments pushing bubbles around.

Aquaclear has very good HOB and powerheads. Eheim are great filters, IMO, but they have very low GPH ratings. My FX5 canister would have to be my favorite so far. I have a Cascade 1200 on my 75 gal, it came with the tank, and might I add, it is junk! I have a few sumps laying around but have never come around to using them on my tanks.
Angel, from my experience, the biowheels aren't that good of filters. I own about 7 or 8 of them and 3 of them have quick working and the design also allows a lot of evaporation, which I do bi-weekly water changes so that isn't a huge concern for myself. The GPH rating is with NO filter media in it and when your media becomes clogged they slow down so much that you would be better off with a sponge filter.
Just my two cents.

I've heard good things about the FX5- When I can find one at a good price I'll get it.

On my 55 gallon, I have a Rena XP3 and an Eheim Ecco 2236. Each of my shirmp tanks have an air powered sponge filter, as well as an Aquaclear 20 with a sponge prefilter.

Ebay is the BEST place to get a FX5. Stores sell them for $300 or more. I got mine off Ebay for $210 shipping included.

How quiet is your FX5. My tank is going in my office and I don't need a lot of noise. THe FX5 looks like a heck of a filter.

My fans on my lights drown out any other noise that might come from my filters.
The only thing that will scare the crap out of you, noise wise, is the FX5 is designed to shut off every 24 hrs for 2 minutes. This releases any air that may be trapped in the hoses or filter. It's like sticking a cup upside down all the way to the bottom of the tank and then turning upright to allow the trapped air to go to the surface. Scares me everytime it happens, I think my tank is bursting or something, LOL!
Mine is also tucked away in the stand so that helps with noise reduction too. Sorry I wasn't much help.

Thanks for the advice. I can't decide on running 2 XP3's or buying an FX5.
