I am checking out a tank on craigs list and the guy selling it says that he has a young tiger cichlid in it. The lady he bought it from said it was a south african cichlid. Any one have knowledge on this fish. He doesn't have a picture of it so I have no idea of what it looks like. Thanks.

i've never heard of such a thing. i bet its a tiger oscar, which would be a south american tiger cichlid.

There is an African Tiger fish . They had it on River Monsters. But I seriously doubt they have that! The things get HUGE and NASTY.

that is what I am thinking of was the tiger oscar is the only tiger cichlid I have ever heard of. And that would be south american not africa. But I thought I would give it a shot and see if there was a fish that I hadn't heard of out there. LOL. Yea a tiger fish would be awesome but I do not think you will find one of those in the hobby. Thanks for the input guys.  |

if its a Tiger Fish they sell for about $60 nice fish i want one when i get my odd ball tank

Well it was a tiger oscar from south america. I talked to the guy and in talking I asked some questions and we figured out that it was the oscar. I think he redid his posting on CL. He has the poor thing in a 10 gallon tank right now. Figured that out too. I hope he sells it to someone who knows what they are getting because that tank will not hold it for too long.

What was funny is he said it was a big tank. So when I got him to measure it, it was a 10 gallon tank. And the oscar is 3 inches now. I do hope that he gets it a good home. I cannot find the post so I assume someone bought it.
