I have a chance to get a magnum 350 filter to add to my 55 gallon which i am trying to upgrade to a 75 or 90 gallon. Anyone have any experience with this filter.

i had a magnum 350 back in the day. i didn't like it because it did not include shutoff valves so it was a mess to clean. i hated having to tear it down because i would get water everywhere. it appears the new ones have shutoff valves so it should be okay if that is the case.
eheim or fluval have more filter volume and i would prefer those but if you are getting a good deal there are worse options.

I go for volume and silence. For gallons per hour I use powerheads. The in the volume of the canister I look for max surface area for biological filtration to grow. The reason I go with eheim over fluval is silence and the fact that the flow rate isn't quite as high. This gives the water more time to move through the biological filtration.
My 2 cents, but all are good and all will work fine. The media you use is every bit as important as the machine.

I ordered another new 75 gallon tank from the critter yesterday, so I'll need another canister for it. I just landed another fluval 405 from ebay for $149. Now I've got to order the new heaters and sponge filters. I have 2 hydro-sponge filters also running with the fluval in my other 75. This time I may try the poret foam filters that Jon has.

I love the magnums. Bot the HOT magnum and the 350. Completely silent and good water flow, easy to clean and all that.
