would a gold nugget be a good edition to an all male peacock tank? my water is hard and ph is 8.0 in a 125 gallon. I have lots of lace rock for caves , but no driftwood. Thanks to Jon, for some beautiful peacocks!

My opinion would be not really. They're super sensitive and the hard water would be less than ideal. They need the wood maybe moreso than other plecos. And Africans can be hard on plecos. The only ones mine have left alone were albino bristlenose. Anyone else ever try gold nuggets with Africans and no wood?

They are not a good choice for a pleco. They like soft acidic water and are not very hardy.

I have had a gold nugget doing just fine for 2 years with a male tank with a few Tangs as well. The key is the water acclmation. I used the drip bucket method for about 6 hours and everthing has been fine.

Good luck, they can work with africans, but it is a general thought not to because of the reasons mentioned above. I know a lot of people that have no problem with it, but since the fish are so pricey it is not something the average joe hobbyist should do unless they are fine risking $30.
I have had hits and misses with a bunch of different plecos. I have had gold nuggets that lived for a long time with my africans, and I have had a whole shippment die in 3 days. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

I like the Albino Bristlenose because they do not get that big. They are cleaning machines..

What about juvie bristle-noses? I'm trying to populate my tank with juvenile fish so i can watch them grow up to be productive little adult fishies . I would only need one. Do you notice any difference in adult size between the albinos and browns? -Rick (the armchair aquarist)
