Since it's hard not to breed ANYTHING, and I've got a new love for shrimp now that I can have the big, pretty saltwater ones, the new project is to try to breed them. There will be a tank sectioned off into 4 partitions, with plexiglass. Each partition will have sand and live rock, and I'll just use regular lighting since shrimp don't care for a lot of light. holes will be drilled into the plexiglass just big enough to allow water flow, and I'll use a hang on the back skimmer. Each section will get a pair of shrimp. Fire shrimp, skunk cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, and sexy shrimp. Iodine is important to shrimp reproduction, so the tank will need careful dosing, and I'll be hoping for the pitter patter of little shrimp legs in the future!

That sounds like a complicated, yet cool project! Shrimp are hilarious! Good luck

They so are! I see my skunk cleaners have eggs today. But they're still in the 90G so none will survive. I'm so excited though!

Plexiglass dividers were siliconed in to create 4 chambers. Each will have a different type of shrimp. A series of holes was drilled on the top portion of each plexiglass divider to allow water circulation, without the shrimp larvae slipping through, as they would if the holes were all the way down. There's live sand in the bottom of each chamber, and I'll use live rock in each chamber as well to create a cave for the pair, and to act as filtration. I will need to have a hang on skimmer, and possibly a filter as well, depending on how well the skimmer and rock do to keep things under control. Shrimp create minimal waste, so it shouldn't be too big a deal. Attachments:

Almost full! Regular fluorescent lighting will be fine for them, but I do have a coralife fixture that's 3 ft. I will probably use that just so it's a bit better. Hopefully I can get a hood and hold the light in as much as possible. Once the live rock goes in, the countdown will begin! The tank will need to cycle and all that just like freshwater. There just are more levels to watch for. Attachments:

I believe this could have freshwater usage too. We'll see how it all works out.
