Testing once in a while lets you know if anything is creeping up. Then you don't have to worry about it if you impulse buy a fish--and we ALL do that!!

Oh and Jess--I don't think I've told you how happy I am that you've joined. It's SO good to have another fish girl here! You might have noticed--and this isn't a bad thing--it's a little heavy on the guy side.

But I'm sure it's nice to have a girl to chat with... even though I'm not a girlie girl or anything. HAHA! I meant to tell you that I didn't put two and two together at the swap that you were "angel". I wanted to say thank you in person for all the help you've given me in the past couple of weeks.

You're welcome. And I don't test as often as I should. Got too comfortable with the freshwater tanks and when my shrimp in the salt nano started getting ill testing let me know the phosphates got way out of hand. I think we all get comfortable when things look fine. Stupid stuff in the tap water doesn't help though! Who would have thought there would be nitrates in tap water but there is!

Yea, I need to test my tap water and check it out. That may be part of my problem.

You shouldn't have to worry about it too much once you get this under control unless you are overfeeding or not doing proper water changes. Once it stabilizes you should only have to test periodically. I would say with your stock 30% weekly should be enough.
Once readings are between 5 -10 you should be in the clear.

Thanks! I can't wait until it gets back to normal. I might be stressing about it more than my fish are. HAHA!
