Jess, I have been consumed with my time for work, class, and baseball, with little time to even sleep and eat. I have not forgotten the Diatom. I will get with you soon about it. JD says he is free all next week and I have no classes scheduled then, so I might just wait and try to catch you, he, and Chris @ The Critter in the same trip one day next week. Will that be ok ? Rick

So I really like the compressiceps and calvus. But it looks like they are pretty small. Any suggestions for larger Tangs to go with these? calvus ,and comps get good sized about 5"+ Frontosa Brichardi shellies nothing off the top of my head that you can't have with them. Yeah, where do you live? I can make it worth the trip if you buy 6 or so ill throw in a few to help cover gas monies. as of right now i got about 25 comps in with my brichardi daffodil (adult wild) colony growing out in a 200gal. the brichardi seem to leave them alone but the firefin are only about 2" so they might not pose a threat to them yet! I love brichardi Daffodils the yellow eyes ,and blue cheeks are neet ,and some males get small humps on thier heads. I could make you a good deal on some of the brichardi to because they love to breed ,and i have a batch that i just pulled from the tank with about 60-70 of them they are only around 3/4" right now but growing fast. I see calvus and comps with almost all types of tangs as long as the tank mates are not to small because comps ,and calvus seem to be great fry hunters I see them as a big Shelly. they love caves ,and big shells for spawning ,and hiding. you can also text me at 256-655-7654

Rick No problem, Rick. It seems that my tank has corrected itself anyways. I did a couple of water changes and kept the light off and it seems to have done the trick. Hannah and I seem to think it has to do with the live sand. Maybe some organisms were starved all at once b/c the water is freshwater and not saltwater. And this spawned some type of algae/bacteria growth but it seems to have corrected itself. So, I really don't need the diatom anymore. But I would still love for you to come up and see my tanks sometime. You're always welcome.

How far from Nashville are you? We could totally meet here or I could even meet you in Murfreesboro (where my folks live about an hour south of Nashville). Would you be able to send me any pics as I'm still pretty new to the whole Tang thing? Oh, and it may be a couple of weeks because I still have to cycle the tanks.

Most Tangs go decently well together as long as you get them all a similar size. I usually do tropheus and gobies in a species set up, but Calvus, Comps, Fronts, featherfins, and most of the others do fairly well together.
Tanganyikans are my personal favorite, but Malawi sell better due to most people start out with them because of color and availability.
Calvus and Comps are stunning fish, and Mark has made me a big fan of paracyps. You really can't go wrong with tangs because they are all so unique. Where as in Malawi you have 3 types of fairly similar fish in a thousand different color combinations, Tangs have unique bodies color patterns and breeding behaviors. I also like to mix in tanganyikan synodontis and eels to mix things up.

I love Gobies! They're cute looking but I think I like the Calvus and Comps better. I definitely agree there is much more of a variety with the Tangs. I can't wait to get my tank setup and running. I just put my female peacock in the new 29 gallon and she made it through the night and looks good. Hopefully she'll do alright while the tank is cycling.
Jon, I could do a synodontis but eels just freak me out... HAHA! I'm such a girl. Plus, my husband would freak out... he's terrified of snakes. Lol!
One thing to remember if you put a tank underneath another tank... put your ornaments in FIRST! I'm so mad b/c I didn't think about the ornaments and needless to say I can't really get any in the tank without emptying the water. I might try to move it out a little when I do a water change.

I was like that too, but you know--tanganyikan eels are not eels they're fish! Have a close look at them. You can tell if you notice the fins and stuff. I loved my eels. It just was time to move on to salt and they got great homes. But I don't want a saltwater eel they ARE eels!!
