Moss balls are hollow...you can break one and train it to grow on driftwood or a rock or something. I'm getting a giant broken ball from aquabid this week...I'll let you know how it works out!

Petsmart has some too I think. Their plants are separate from their fish so they are probably safer.

After reading about Java moss it seems it can take over a tank very easy! have you ever had java moss in a tank before? and if so how easy was it for you to take care of? I want something that will grow on rocks and drift wood but not sure i want the full tnak flooded with it.

Not an expert but I'm fairly confident that the moss that comes in those balls and java moss are two different things all together.

Maybe what im looking fro is more of a alge than a moss? It looks like moss but it covers nicely not like alge. ill look for a picture of what i am talking about in a sec and post it.

The moss ball is like moss you would find in the woods...java moss is more plant like, but it does put out lots of green creepers and grows on driftwood/rocks/basically anything. I have it in my tropical and shrimp tanks as it is great cover for fry.

ill go buy me a ball today and see what it does. i have read that is is best to tie it down with cotton covering it ... somethign about the cotton will desolve ,and let the moss root.

Don't think I've ever heard the cotton trick glen.

I was in Petsmart at lunch and they don't have any...ich can drop down on plants so I would quarantine it for a week or so if you get one.

You could check on Aquabid for the moss you are describing above. I have the Java and Christmas Moss, but like Alli said, these are more like frilly plants than a moss. The name can throw you off. The kinds I have can be tied to something and they will adhere to it eventually, but they can also just be left free in the water and they will clump and grow.
