Yeah he got in a fight with another Multie and lost! the other fish ripped his Lower jaw,and lip completly OFF! He hid behind a rock for 3 day still defending his fry! then he started eatting again. I cant get rid of him after all that. he will be part of the tank forever i guess!

How many multies are in your colony? My colony has around forty - I have yet to experience this level aggression.

I have always heard re: Africans; that if you over populate the tank it calms aggression. Fact or fiction ? Would this be true of multies also ? What about all the Lamprologus species ?

I think this tends to hold true more for Malawi cichlids, mbuna in particular. I've heard of some people having success with Tanganyikan gobies in a large colony, but i don't think it holds true in general for Tanganyikans. -Rick (the armchair aquarist)

I have about 3 amles 4 females inside the 100gal,but i take the young out once they are a decent size. I also have a smaller colony out in the fish room of about 4, that just had fry also. Yeah He still eats just fine kinda of freaky to look at but he is doing really well I feed grow .35 pellets of NLS so he has no problem sucking them down. it could have been him gaurding the fry from the 7bar Frontosa in the tank also not sure ,but it was a multie that took it the rest of the way off.
