Fall, 2011 MCAA Swap/meet
Sunday, October 2, 2011
Williamson County Office Complex 1320 W. Main St. Franklin, TN 37064
Noon until 4 p.m
For those of you with a GPS or a good map book, or for those who can click onto the interactive map on our mcaafish website, you can disreguard this.
For those of you who will be traveling I-65, either from the North or the South, follow these simple instructions I have written, once you exit the Interstate into Franklin.
From Interstate 65, either North or South, exit the Interstate onto exit #65 @ mm65. This will place you on Hwy 96. You should travel Hwy 96 towards downtown Franklin, which is going West.
When you reach the square of Franklin in approximately 3-4 miles, circle the square by 75% and travel down Main St.. In 2 blocks you will reach a 5 way intersection. Continue to travel straight for approximately 2 more miles and the Williamson County Office Complex, which was once the old Williamson County Hospital, will be on your right. There will be a sign in the parking lot to direct you to the door to enter for our swap/meet.

Jon, This a is not @ the City Hall building. It is located right off the square. Our swap/meet is @ the County Office Building. It is about 2 miles S.W. of the square, still on Main St.. Main St. does run through the square though. Lots of free parking there. You just had the sites mixed up. I left all this info. so those who have read it as you have, will be aware also.

============== THE ITINERARY FOR THE FALL 2011 SWAP/MEET =================
Our speakers are going to be.....................
Michael Lane from The Aquatic Critter ( confirmed today) -- " Filtration, simple to complex and the nitrogen cycle" with limited Q&A time
Jon Carman from Riftfish.com "Photography of our aquatic inhabitants" with limited Q&A time
Jon Carman from Riftfish.com The most efficient use of the new forum layout" with limited Q&A time
Rick Easterly, MCAA President or Mike Gibbs, Entrepreneur, hobbyist, breeder, Extensive shipper & co-member. "Various shipping containers, how to build them,& basic principles of shipping aquatics" w/limited Q&A time.
The basic itinerary is as follows:
12:00 -1:30 swapping/trading/selling - signing new members - register for raffle 1:30 - 2:30 speakers 2:30 - 3:00 business meeting 3:00 - ? raffle drawing and auction
Times can vary, but this is a good guess.
The Raffle prize is to be a 20 high, complete, (used, cleaned & ready to be used), and put together by your officers & donated to the club. Raffle tickets will be $1 each, @ the door. We will, @ the door, be signing and re-signing memberships and providing membership cards. We will also, @ the door, be giving each person a name badge to put their real name and screen name on so all know who is who. We did this once before and it was very helpful. Selling/swapping/trading free to club members. Non-members will either need to join or pay $5.
The auction is planned at the very end, so all members can arrive and place their items out for everyone to view and ponder over before offering a bid. Mark Ruble, your V.P. will be our auctioneer.
We will be serving snacks and cold drinks during the swap/meet as well. Each item will be marked at .25 cents over cost so you have yet another opportunity to help your club budget and enjoy snacks while trading and participating. We hope this works for you, and you find it a benefit to the enjoyment of the day.
Your officers are also going to have several items out on display for you to view and make comment about. We will have paper and pens available for you to write your comments. We plan to have several different logo T-shirts to view, along with a few different bumper stickers, car magnets, ink pens, and stationary; all with MCAA logo an/or MCAA web address for future advertising by all of us !!!
There is also going to be 5 MCAA business Cards that advertise our web site and club as well, that will be given to each of you, until they are all gone. We hope you will take these and hand them out to 5 people whom you know or want to know, or even to 5 strangers @ your local fish store whom you don't know, over the next 6 months. We hope this will encourage a few more members to join us as well. We grow, by all of us doing our part to spread the word of who we are, what we are, and how to find us !!!
Last, I have asked Channel 4 T.V. to join us and film what we are about. They have agreed ( today ) with the understanding that if a more intense news story was to break that they might not attend. We are hoping that they will attend, and that many of your lovely faces will be seen in a feature story on the channel 4, WSMV, news. We are hoping to have a brief interview of the officers and the sponsors, with any logos visible, in order to promote the club & it's website, along with our sponsors websites.
We now have 3 paid sponsors for our club. The Aquatic Critter, Riftfish.com, & AlabamaCichlids.com.
So, don't feel you must attend in your "Sunday go to meeting clothes," but please don't come looking shabby. You can if you want, but I don't think we should. If we are lucky enough to have Channel 4 come, then we should put our best foot forward, IMHO.
I believe that's it. if I have left something out I will announce it later this week as it comes up.
Oh, one last thing..............I have a large colorful yard sign that will be placed by the road as you go around a curve just before you turn in to the parking ;lot of the County Office Bldg.. Don't think you will miss it. Has our logo on it along with our name, etc... The location in the building will be on the left had side of the building as you enter the parking lot. I will place a colorful flier on the outside door you enter, exactly like the one displayed @ the Critter for our event.
If any of you are in the Critter, make sure to express your appreciation for the advertising opportunity and his sponsorship ! We are hoping to continue advertising there after the swap as well. Chris from the Critter, the owner, tells me there is going to be some great sales in the future for club members, so stay tuned later to his board and other locations on our forum.
If you have questions please ask any officer. We are here to help and promote you.
We are planning for you to have a wonderful time ! We hope it turns out that way for each of you !
Respectively, Rick Easterly MCAA President aka ree123

Fun! Is the club keeping a cut of the auction proceeds, or is the auction just for stuff donated to the club?

This is the clubs first auction since our creation over 2 years ago. We have ask that every club member bring one (1) (or more) items that they are willing to donate to the club, in order to promote its growth, for this first auction. If one chooses not to participate, that is OK, but participation is encouraged. The item can be alive, ie: fish, plant, whatever, or it can be a drygood.
If this first auction is successful, with all proceeds going straight to the club, then the next swap/meet, Spring 2012, we will be planning another auction, and proceeds will be split with the seller.

Yeah, I'm gettin excited too! This will be my first swap-meet as well, and this swap-meet is what spurred me into getting my aquarium set up. I've been planning this particular aquarium for 3 or 4 years now, and just never set it up!
My thanks to the MCAA, it's officers and members for dragging me back into the hobby. Looking forward to enjoying it actively rather than from the sidelines!
