I've been so excited over our upcoming fish swap that I almost forgot to spread the good news. Since our new house has an attached garage as well as a detached garage (the official mancave), I talked with the hubby about turning "my garage" (the attached) into a fish room. I was ecstatic when he agreed and had no problem with it whatsoever. He even told me he would make sure I had a sink and a water source in the garage. I can't wait to get started... wait... how do I get started? Any ideas? LOL!

Insulation is most important part of what you will have. You can lose a lot of energy around a garage door.
I would get an idea of what you want and not just buy a bunch of tanks. Good luck, get us pics of garage before you start

Yea i'll definitely take pics all through the renovation. The garage door is already insulated but I can't remember if the garage is actually insulated. I'm wondering how hard it would be to do that...I hate installing insulation... that crap sucks! I'm going to definitely think it through before I go out and throw things together. I'm a researcher by trait. Although, sometimes I get tired of researching. lol

Any thoughts on the styrofoam sheets as insulation instead of fiberglass? It goes up like panleling and Lowes has it in different thickness.

your walls in the garage should be insolated alrdy! i would hope.. where you need to worry about will be the roof ,and around the door like Jon said. I would not waiste the cash on the foam insolation because the rolls are like 8$ per roll ,and are not that bad to deal with. that foam can cost alot. I built a wall between my roll up door and the house to make a 10x20 room might have to make it biger soon lol... Frozen fish dont make for good pets! ha-ha

Thanks guys! I'm super excited but already overwhelmed and we haven't even purchased the house yet. LOL! Glenoweth, I'll be at the door handing out the nametags and selling raffle tickets so you can't miss me. Also, my hubby won't be coming. He's not that big into the fish business but he supports me in my hobbies. I'm so excited to see/meet everyone. I can't wait for Sunday!

I believe the walls in the garage are just concrete cinderblocks b/c it's a basement house. The roof should be alright b/c like I said, it's in the basement and the house is above it. I'm more worried about the walls that go to the outside. The people just bought a brand new garage door that is insulated and so I'm just worried about the cinderblocks. I hate messing with those rolls of insulation (esp. if you have to cut the stuff). I just insulated the whole inside of our lake place and had to cut every single piece... IT WAS AWFUL! At this point, i'm willing to pay more to avoid that nightmare again. But hopefully, I won't have to cut the pieces to make them fit. We'll see in due time. Have to buy the house first. HAHA!

Well the house sits on the side of a hill. So the living part of the basement is underground but the garage is the main part that is not completely underground. LOL... I guess it's hard to explain without being able to see pics. I'll have to show you at the swap. I guess I'll be able to tell this winter how well it's insulated... Didn't think about that. Winter is right around the corner.. Yikes!

Jess, I am glad to hear about your project !!! I am a new member and will be at the swap meet. I live in Dawson Springs, KY which is about 24 miles north of Hopkinsville. I would love to talk to you and your hubby about the project. I will help you guys in any way I can and I may just have some things you may need for your set up. I have 130 + tanks in my basement and am loving it and I also love to talk about the fish thing and may be some help, but also may learn at from you guys too. I am desiging several central filtration systems for my set up and would be glad for yaw to see what I am doing. Saves alot of time on maintance and also electricity. May also have some fish to get you started. I am excited to have someone so close that is as crazy about the fish as I am. At the show look for the Old Fat Boy with the Blue KY Wildcat hat on. I do look forward to meeting you. As I said I do have alot of extra things you may be interested in to help you get going. Tom

Hey Tom! It's so great that you're here and can help share the knowledge. How did you hear about us? We're trying very hard to get more members and spread the word so I'm just curious as to how you found us. Not sure if you've read it anywhere yet but the hubs and I are moving VERY soon to Paducah, KY but we actually have a lake place in Cadiz, KY that we visit quite a bit... so it sounds like we'll be neighbors. Anyways, I'll be the one at the table helping with nametags and such... can't miss me. I'll have a nametag on I'd LOVE to chat with you and get some advice since I'm new at this. Glad to have you on board.
