All the reading i have done says your not going to get much good bacteria from water in an established tank. Your best bet is to use rocks, substrate and nothing better then filter media.

You'd do better to run an extra filter on the 125 for a few weeks, then add it to the 65 when you add fish. Instant cycle. Old water has little benefits and won't help you cycle. When I set up new tanks I always add fresh water, add dechlor, then put an existing filter on the tank, and voila.

If you want to avoid a mini-cycle when adding new fish, if you have the tank set up ahead of time, I would suggest a fishless cycle. Add ammonia to represent the potential bioload you want your filtration to handle... at first you won't add that much every day, just enough to keep a relatively high ammonia (but not too high!). Then once you start getting nitrites you can control their level with water changes (again to keep a relatively high, but not too high level) while continuing to add your daily ammonia... then once all that's going to nitrates you can just feed till you're ready to add fish... do a massive water change to lose the nitrates, and voila! one rip roarin' ready to go filtration setup!
-Rick (the armchair aquarist, who's "cats" (likely with the help of his children) knocked over his bottle of ammonia and lost the cap, so he needs to get a new one)

That will help, too. Gravel-type substrate holds a lot of organic matter, good for cycling.
