Like stated in my egg tumbler thread i stripped some females last night into my new tumblers and one of the females had only been holding for about 5 days so they were totally eggs, nothing formed yet. All the eggs in the tumbler are looking good right now, but was wondering what should i look for if an egg goes bad. Will it form a fungus, change color or something else? Should i remove it asap? Would a dead egg effect the other eggs?

Yes the egg will get fungus like fuzzy stuff. also things to look for are eggs that are not moving, this is what causes them to go bad. most eggs you will beable to notice a diff in color.

When eggs sit still they fungus fast due to lack of water movement/oxygenation. Less chance of fungus if water moves around them. Fungus eggs usually lose their color (die), then fungus. If you can remove them with a baster or tweezers, it is best, as fungus can spread from one egg to the next, but if eggs are in a tumbler there is less chance of fungus spreading. Still a good idea to attempt removal under any circumstances, if possible. It is rather easy to tell fertile eggs from the ones that fungus. You'll see.

Are the tumblers in the same tank as the parents? If not, you can medicate the water and cover the tank.

I have the tumblers in my 55g growout tank. Other fry and juvies are in it. Why would i medicate, with what, and cover?

If you had the tumbler in a small tank, you could medicate with methylene blue and cover the tank so no light gets in - this would eliminate a fungus issue.
