Been specials on T.V. like PBS and Animal Planet channels about them. They say they are in Florida waterways now and are reaking havoc on the natural fish populations. They supposidly have no natural enemies. I heard the fish market trade had released some of them about a decade ago and they were as much to blame as the aquarist. They do appear to be wicked fish.

They can breath air and scoot across land to find more water. Similar to a bichir, but much more aggressive and hardy. They are all the way north to maryland I have heard. My meanest fish is my male Lepidiolamprologus kendalli cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1595Not all of them are that bad, but mine is nasty. He strikes my hand when I put it in the tank, and has killed every tankmate ever. He would probably not be so bad in a 125g but in a 75g and the 30breeder he is in now, he wants it all to himself.

honestly Amia calva( bowfin, spotfin, mudfish, etc) is a native fish that is far cooler and more aggressive at breeding time. A total throw back to ancient times ( solid boney skull, corkscrew intestine, etc). and many populations are quite colorful. smart fish that will recognize its owner and take exception to some folks or even other pets.. Had one that did not get along with my ferret.. Imagine , if you will, coming home to find Bowfin out of its tank with ferret tail down its gullet but ferret attacking its head... but not once rather regular at least once a week...
