Everyone kick in a dollar. someone donate a fish. All proceeds go to the club. That would be awesome. Great chances of winning a fish too

We had a club raffle @ the swap/meet for a donated 20 high with all the essentials to go with it. Proceeds to the club, and it was a big hit. We are planning another in the Spring of 2012.
We also had @ the swap/meet the club auction......donated fish and dry goods to the club, auction to raise funds for the club, and members go home with new fish, etc... for their tanks. It was a big hit about a month ago as well. We are planning another auction in the Spring of 2012.
Not sure how this would work on the forum, as it would require someone shipping one or more fish, and many members here do not ship or have not ever shipped fish.
I am not trying to be a party pooper, but I believe this idea might need to be saved and looked forward to @ our swap/meets.
If you have other suggestions to continue this idea, please send me some PM details and we can discuss it some more. No hard feelings, I love new ideas, I just think some things need to be planned for all of us when we are together and in person.

Its not a bad idea. however it would be hard to justify shipping the fish due to shipping cost. Even if the fish is donated the shipping cost would have to be picked up by winner or have to come from raffle donations taking money from what would be going to the club. Now Pickup is always an option and most people live within a somewhat central location however it would be unfair for those who don't. Its something to think about though.

I agree with Fuzzy if we can figure out how to ship the fish or maybe it could be a filter or some other item. What Fuzzy is trying to do is build some interest in the club, make it more active. Not everyone wants to lay back and wait for the spring swap meet !! IMO a club is more about fellowship with people with the same interest and becoming friends with people that you see more than twice a year. We need more involvement, something interesting to attract new members and grow. Of course that is only my opinion !!

We should have more activities between the swap/meets. One thing we have started is the Photo Contest. We will have a monthly winner. If we get alot of interest in that activity then we may be more willing to begin another activity. It's just hard b/c we don't have many club members yet and forum members don't always stay active after they sign up. If you guys come up with the logistics of how this will work, then PM Rick and you guys can discuss further.

heard on a 'podcast' - the Tampa Bay tropical fish club meets up at a local fish store on a monthly basis for 'learning/speakers' ect. Maybe this is something the club could do - then the members can plan their 'needed' trip to the fish store around a club activity that evening. We have three sponsers so we could rotate to each sponsers location.
then somehow we could coordinate the 'raffle idea' into those meetings.
just an idea

If we had a stronger membership base, this would work and this is what we're striving to become. But we need more members to make it successful. So, for now, we are REALLY focusing on gaining more interest and more members. If you guys have any ideas on how to do that, please send them our way! I like all the ideas though, keep them flowing.

I keep hearing we need more members with all the activities we want to do, but my question is how many members to we have and how many do we need to get some of the activities under way like this fish raffle, fry club, breeders club wct? Im not mad or upset im just wondering.

I can give you the numbers though... right now we only have 37 paid club members and quite a few of those are not active on the forum.

I think we are kindof in a catch-22 with programming right now. But I also think we should not be afraid to try something just because it "might" fail. If you guys can come up with something cool that many will be interested in, then I say lets go for it. Personally (IMO), I don't see what it would hurt to try something. It might fail but it also might take off like a rocket.
I guess I'm a glass half full kinda person. ;D
