Actually there should not be a problem getting anyone to approve anything that might build membership and make the club more interesting. I agree with Jess completely !! What is it going to hurt to try new things ?? If it flops, then it just flops but what if it doesn't then a good chance we may pick up a few members and even generate funds for the needs of the club. What ever that may be. I am a full member and don't know anything about the financial statis of the club and I do know it takes a certian amount to supply the club with the necessitys. But it looks to me like that as long as someone is donating items or fish for raffles then it is all pure profit for the club to build on its bankroll. I am more than willing to donate things or fish from time to time, anything for the betterment of the club. Getting back to shipping, if a member is not willing to pay the shipping then don't participate in that raffle, but the next one may be something u r more interested in and willing to do so. But as bnoel210 says it needs to be the members decision. Again, just my opinion !!! Everyone has one and not saying that mine is right !!

Quite simply: this club is going to be as successful and interesting as "we" make it. I would be happy to ship plants for raffle purposes or as RAOK to interested parties (once they get established over the coming months), but I realize that shipping plants is very easy compare to shipping fish. Perhaps one of our Vendors would jump in on this as an opportunity to grow their business?
Whatever. I'm sure this could be worked out and prove successful. If you don't want to participate, then don't. I think the idea is that people are asking for "suggestions" rather than wanting to hear complaints for now.

I can give you the numbers though... right now we only have 37 paid club members and quite a few of those are not active on the forum. I mispoke, we currently have 48 paid club members! Only 2 from the 50 member mark! Keep the memberships coming...

So that leads me back to my question how many members do we need to start some activities. If im correct 50 is what we need before ACA recognize us.

I believe that is correct. We're only 2 away... anyone that has been thinking about joining, please help us out and join.

I have read this thread with interest this morning. It seems there is about a half dozen of us wanting to do more, have more activity. I am all for that. Lets think on this just for a minute though.
We have started the picture competition in the last 2 weeks and fyi....the deadline for the first months submission is today ! Please submit ! We had our first raffle, auction, and guest speakers @ our fall 2011 swap/meet. We want to continue and to improve upon the last swap/meet with an even better one in the Spring of 2012.
We only have bi-annual swap/meets for now for one main reason. We tried in the past, more frequent meetings and found we had very low turnouts. One in particular had only officers and no members to show. We choose to make them every 6 months in order to have a better attendance, and thus far this has worked well. I would love for us to boost it up to having quarterly swap/meets, but am still concerned about attendance. I would not be against monthly meetings, but do not feel there is enough members who could/would attend to make that idea feasible at this time. We need more than just 6 or 8 or 10 to really make it a good go, IMO.
We also have no specific location, central to the Nashville area, for all swap/meets to occur. The last one was held for the first time where it was and that location may not be available to us next Spring, so your officers are going to have to possibly search for yet another location, which could be expensive. So far we have found locations free to us.
We have 2 bi-annual club business meetings held every year that began in 2011, the next one to be held in Jan. or Feb. after the elections which are upcoming this week and next. The nominations thread is slated to be opened this week.
If one wants to know of the business status and specific officer plans of the club, that is all discussed at the business meetings in the winter and the summer club business meetings. It was discussed at the last swap/meet as well. All are welcomed for the club business meetings. If you attend these as well, then we have 4 meetings each year, but only 2 of them are swap/meets.
Now, having stated all this, I ask each of you....... Would any of you like to be on a committee to be more active in helping advertise and promote the club/forum ? Would any of you like to head up a committee to create another competition via the forum other than or in addition to the picture contest we have just this month got going ? Committees can be created who can then make suggestions to the board for ideas to be implemented.
If a raffle or auction via the forum is what you all want, we need to talk about exactly how that will work. There will be kinks as to how to get it started. We can do this, but have to have our ducks in a row before we jump in and it cause hard feelings or flops.
Remember, we are a club living in a virtual world on the Internet, and have our swap/meets to get together to meet and share, and socialize. Using the forum to exchange ideas is all fantastic, and to improve on that to have more of us participating in competition or exchanging of items is perfectly fine with me, as long as we do any of these ideas with a set of policies or rules or guidelines, so as many as possible can and will participate, and so there are no harsh feelings when it is all said and done, or implemented.
Our membership in the club continues to grow. It is fantastic ! When we achieve participation on a regular basis of about 50+ per day, we will be qualified to solicit the ACA for membership and sanction into their larger organization. That may well put us in the running someday to sponsor a ACA event right here by our club. A goal that is possible in time, but more growth is needed. That just takes time folks.
BTW... I think our logo is fine as drawn, but I have loved reading all the info. all of you provided about how to color it up and make it look better ! Thank you ! See my remarks in that thread this a.m..
Please feel free to continue to exchange ideas and suggest ways to improve this site for your enjoyment. Your officers are open to all ideas. Let me know if any of you would be interested in serving on a committee for the club.
I am with you all to try new things, but details must be evaluated and implemented, IMO. We must keep these ideas specific in nature, or we may find ourselves as before, to spread out, and not enough interest in any one given thing, thus failure.
Respectively to all, Rick

I feel like Tom hit the nail on the head , i don`t think we will ever get very many paid members in the club untill we start having more events like the swap meet or some kind of get together either monthly or bi monthly. it seems we are stuck in a rut and we need to get off our rears and do something about it. Rick something about a get together in dec if we could fit it in between everyones x-mas plans , we could have a pot luck meal and everyone bring something, one time we can get together in the south side of nashville and the next get together on the north side or in clarkville. rotate the meeting place around . but then everyone needs to find a meeting place if yoiu want the meeting to be near you other wise if your not going to get out and help find a place to meet then don`t complain about where we meet. thats how i feel about it hope i didn`t step on anyone toes.

Good points Mike. Everyone here has been posting some good points. Seems the idea of a get together for a Christmas Party of sorts was mentioned once before. I like the idea. Would it be a fish swapping/dinner party, or just a dinner party with those swapping in the parking lot that desired to do so ? And would it be an evening party or a lunch time party ? Who wants to explore this idea ? Not sure if pot luck is in order, or catering, or meeting @ a restaurant and going dutch. Discuss please.
Before the last swap/meet I put a post out asking for help to find a location for the fall 2011 swap/meet, and had little participation except for the officers and a very few members. I am all for the idea of others helping if they desire.

Rick thats what i was talking about , its seems everyone wants to complain about not having enough events but no one wants to get out and help find a meeting place. i have a place here in Franklin , ky we can use if everyone want to come here its a room about 2 to 3 times the size of the room we had the swap meet in this fall.

Brian, I appreciate you being willing to take on tasks. Please e-mail or PM me and we can get you on board with some things. I am unsure what you were interested in doing, so let me know please. Some things will need more membership participation than others, so lets me and you talk.

If anyone wants to donate something to the club just list it on the classifieds and state where the money is going. As far as I am concerned, nobody has to ask permission to raise funds, or implement a good idea for the club. if we want to trade, auction, give, whatever, go for it in the classified section and if it takes off, nobody will complain.
