Who here is running a de-humidifier in their fish room ?
I have one and have always used it sparingly and never had it ducted to the outside until recently. Now I have it running 24/7 and am finding as it gets colder outside that it is producing a lot of needed heat, and I have not turned on any room heaters, even yet this season.
It is also doing a fantastic job of keeping down room humidity, thus controlling mold issues I have had in the past.
Do any of the rest of you find any of this to be true ?

By ducted I mean the drain is running to the outside. The air produced from it is the warm air I am speaking of that is heating the room.

Rick,
Just picked one up for my building and is holding my humidity down to a preset 40%. Is does warm the room up, but I will be watching as when the temps get into the low 30's and below to see what temps are then. Also, Rick, if your humidity gets out of hand and starts the molding problems, won't be good, especially, if your fish room is under your first floor. Had a friend in Chicago, whose humidity was very high all the time causing upper respiratory problems for his family upstairs.

40% is great. Are your tanks all covered ? Mine are not, and my levels are near 70% with the de-humidifier running. You can only imagine how wet the room was before I was running it all the time. @ 90% I had mold issues, now almost none. I think I am going to cover more tanks.
Any other members care to say how their de-humidifier is working and about how it heats their fish room ? My temps are staying near 80 to 82 so far this fall, no matter the temps outside, to date.

Rick, you should breed tree frogs with the rainforest in your garage. I have 2 running 24/7 to stay at 60%, my goal is 40%.

Rick, With all those uncovered tanks, you're using the tanks to heat the room and the dehumidifier is trying to empty your tanks. You have hot water heat with a bunch of small individual boilers that also happen to have fish in them! ;D I'd cover the tanks. That would help the humidity a bunch, I would think, and the mold issue in turn.

Jon, did you have to pull an extra run of romex to carry the current of 2 de-humidifiers ? Maybe I need a second de-humidifier.
Alan, I agree more of my tanks should be covered. I find that the h20 levels drop much faster now that the de-humidifier is running all the time.

No. I don't know how to put pic's on here. Maybe one of you can explain it to me someday. We got a digital camera, pocket kind, a Nikon coolpix L22, just this year, so I am still learning how to not use film. All our recent pic's are in the cam. on the little card for now.

Cover your tanks as most of mine are. Air temp in my room is at 85 degrees. I am also running 2 oil filled radiators only set on #2. They barely kick on, if the room gets cooler. No moisture problems at all. Insulate well all around the room and also the drop ceiling lights.
