I somehow talked the YMCA in Donelson to let me turn their 125g tetra, goldfish, gourami, pacu tank to an african tank. It was in rough shape, but after 6 hours of labor, I think it looks decent now. They are letting me advertise above the tank, and if I service it they may give me a free membership.

It looks nasty right now. Pics coming in a month when crap settles out. I have never serviced a tank this nasty before. Usually fish poop doesnt bother me, but the strong fishy sent about made me upchuck in the tank.

I had the same issue when i when to pick up my 200gal , part of the deal was that i would clean it my self, it was set up for about 4 years ,and the crap nin the rocks smelled so bad that i could hardly take it. Im sure they never used a vac on the tank...

I have cleaned many a tank like that, that had been let go by the owner or the previous service person just didn't know what they were doing. It can be nasty. Usually the majority of the smell comes from rotten food buildup on the rim/tops of the tank that remains from people not looking when they feed and the obvious over feeding. Glad you are getting it cleaned up for them Jon.
