Well I'm totaly over my disaster last night for the most part. I moved my 13 remaining fish back into the 125 and they are doing great again. So thank you everyone for your support yesterday. I may sound like a sissy but it was need support. Tonight I have been online trying to decide how I'm going to restock my loss. This is what idea I have come up with so far and would like your opinions here please. I have a 72g right now that houses my all male haps/peacocks. I'm thinking of turning my 125 into the all male tank and of course get more males, but how many haps/peacocks can be put into the 125 with out over stocking? With the 72g I was going to move my 6 white calvus and 3 gobies, but not sure what else if anything to add to it. I don't want to do cyps again since I just had a really bad ordeal and lost all 10 not so cheap fish in one shot. Any suggestions would be great here. Once again thank you.

Glad you made it through Brian! Welcome back to the hobby!
You'll probably hear a variety of opinions here. If I had a 125 for haps/peacocks with good/over filtration I'd probably look to have about 15-17 fish in it. I'd like to hear the other opinions though as this is just a stab.

17 sounds a bit light to me for a 125.

Well it did to me last night also, but at the same time you have to remember these are all males and some of these haps/peacocks may get rather large, 10-12 inches

I've always heard to overstock to avoid fighting over locations of domain in any given tank. Just look at all the fish in the Cheddar's restaurant tanks. They have some females too, but it is overstocked. Look at the curved front tall tank in Aquatic Critter. ( left front corner of the store) Overstocked. Again males and females though. Just what I've heard over and over.

Ive heard that also but with an all male tank i know its alot of taking out and adding till you get the right mix. So the question is though is how do you know if your over stocked or way over stocked. I have never seen a cookie cutter for an all male tank

Got me on this one. I don't know that I have ever heard about a difference if they are all males. My reference was to mixed sex tanks. Sorry, but another will have to be the gauge for you on this one.

Stocking A recommended stocking level for African Cichlids is about one adult fish (4-5” size) for every 5-6 gallons of water. This is just a general guideline and you may be able to keep more or less depending on the aggressiveness of the species you choose to keep. Crowding the tank with slightly higher stocking levels can control aggression but requires very good filtration and consistent water changes. quoted from: www.aquabuys.com/c/african-cichlid-aquarium.html

Thanx fuzzy. I have read that one before. I think with this tank its all trial an error. Ill add as many as i can at one time and maybe a few more later on. Take out the ones not coloring up or causing problems. Ill probably start with what i can afford which will be about 17 and see how it goes till i can get some more.
