1st time I have had this happen with tropheus. I have 5 females all holding at the same time, all bemba flame. So far none of the others have spawned yet. I saved 1st and second batch they had, but these will be on there own. I at least took catfish out for them.
Tropheus hold for a long time, and they have small spawns, but fry are larger on release, so with good cover they might all make it. I like the tropheus because they are nonstop action. Very similar to mbuna, but easier to kill. I do a water change every week, sometimes 2, and I feed them small amounts 5-10 times a day.
They do well on any premium food such as nls, omega one, and so on. There main foods right now is omega one super kelp pellets, spirulina flake, my frozen food, and mysis shrimp. Never feed them bloodworms or beefheart.
Keep nitrates at 10ppm or under, pH 7.8 to 8.8, and with these guys I normally dose lightly with epsom salt each water change. Always keep a metro on hand to fight bloat, but as of now I havent lost any in past 8 months. I lost 2 wild muzi cherry rainbows on shipment, but that is all I can remember.
Lastly, keep super crowded. I have about 40 in my 125g right now. This will split aggression from dominant males. You should do this with any african, but these even more so.
Suitable tankmates- simochromis(extremely rare) petrochromis(kind of rare, think of tropheus on steroids), gobies, and some mbuna if you dont care about mixing lakes. I personally wouldnt but that is because I wouldnt want a $10 fish killing a $25 fish. And I like to keep lakes to themselves.
If anyone else has kept or currently keeps tropheus feel free to add more info.
FYI, posted this from my phone and spell check is a pain and my little buttons and fat fingers dont mix well.
