i have this little white animals on the glass only on the parts with algae they are not worms they can move very quick

sounds like planaria. Chances are you are overfeeding your fish. Cut back on the feeding. Do a 50% water change and clean the gravel out really well. If this is in fact what you have they wont harm the fish and small fish may even eat them. I would also salt the tank with aquarium salt. Probably a ratio of 1 tablespoon per gallon of tank water. Another gravel cleaning a few days after should help as well

It is usually a indicator that we have not been following good husbandry skills for our inhabitants recently, which we all seem to do from time to time.

Aquarium maintenance FTW! I haven't experienced these yet, but I fear that my shell-bed is going to accumulate gunk even worse than gravel...

years ago I got these all the time. but it was due to type of food used. Changed foods and it was taken care of. They are natural and can come in on fish,decor,tank water ect.. However like everyone said over feeding or to many nutrients in the water causes them to reproduce like mad. they are only a eye sore but wont harm anything.
