I have a German Red Peacock that is about 2.5" that doesnt have a hint of color. It is suppose to be a male. He is in my 125. I was thinking about moving it to another tank, but dont really have anything open. I have a 50 gallon with 35 mbuna 1.25" fry and a 55 gallon with 40 1.25" mbuna fry. I will be adding a bunch more rock and about 12-15 more fish to the 125 in about a week or so. Should i just wait till then? I would hate to add all of that and find out i have to return the fish and have to take out all the rock i put in just to catch it. What would you do here?

Is the question you want to find out if it is a male? If so take a pic and post. Another option would be catch it and put it in a breeder net until you decide.

I also vote female, but you should do this: Use a good flashlight and shine it on him at an oblique angle (less than 45 degrees). If you get significant BLUE showing, he is just a late bloomer. Sneaky little devils!

Thanks for the advice. I will try that. When i bought it we thought there was a tad of color on the fish and thats why i bought it. Just the chances we take trying to by males at a small size.

I will agree with the masses. Appears to be female or a really young immature male.

It has been said that "patience is a virtue." Meantime you get to enjoy the growing up process. Just food for thought and an opinion. And you know what they say about opinions.........

Id wait till it grew another inch and then throw it in your fry grow out tank. if it doesn't color up in about 4 weeks in there, then decide if you wanna breed it or trade it in towards a male

I'm im def not trying to breed it,but I also got to think the place I got it from isn't so close and don't make it there often. I should also be adding a bunch more fish to this tank this week and its gonna make it that much harder to catch. I think I may just bring it back now and not worry about all the "what ifs".
