I mean we could do it with any regular and albino fish. I wonder if they could learn about hybrids/cross breeding and the difference of how a regular fish acts, grows, eats, lives compared to a hybrid. That would be a sweet research paper.

I got a reply from the Agriculture Dept. His reply follows:
Steve,
I think the most important thing we need at this juncture is guidance. As you know Agriculture is a large field and unfortunately neither Ag. teacher here is experience in aquaculture. Mr. Dalton is an animal science emphasis and mine is equine science and agriculture business. So, we are in the learning phase. We have not had great success with the ciclids. We have lost several fish trying to carry them over to our new tanks. We have gotten some to survive but our success has been minimal. Some of the equipment we received, we just don't need. We want to have a few tanks in each room and possibly raise tilapia in the greenhouse. The plans for the extra tanks is to sell at large discounted prices to raise money for FFA scholarships through our adult organization the FFA alumni. Would you know anyone that could use some tanks? We have surplus of some things and lack others. We would just have to meet and go over our inventory it is too large to put via email. As far as needing fish, I believe after some of our recent failures, we are ready for some fish that is very hearty.
So in summary, we would like to raise funds for scholarships with extra equipment. We would like to teach kids about the wonderful aquaculture industry with a few tanks in each room. Hopefully, maybe start raising fish and possibly use as a fundraising opportunity for our students. I hope this helps.

What Im taking from this is his department could use some guidance and maybe a little mentoring to get their breeding program going and possibly some fish. It also looks like we may be able to assist in selling some tanks or rehoming some. It sounds to me like they already have more tanks than they need so our clubs donation tanks will be able to be placed elsewhere. I haven't heard much activity on this thread from club officers or President so I guess I am asking permission to be a lil more proactive on this while representing the club. He included a cell number and Id be more than happy to call him or gladly pass the number along. He is obviously asking for assistance and I think it would be great for this organization to help. I don't want to shuffle my feet on this so guys just let me know how you want to proceed.

Well not to be rude or disrespectful but this is a project Jon and myself started. Just asking the club for its help with donation. If the board and the forum members want to help out great, but I dont think we need the boards permmission to talk to schools or anything. If the board wants to jump in and help two thumbs up we do need all any any help. Its appreciated.

Steve, thank you for your efforts and gracious letter writing. Also thank you for sounding so considerate towards the club processes that the board represents.
In this case though, Brian is correct, as we, the board, have written no guidelines of how to proceed with this. To this point it involves various members stepping up to offer either their time or supplies to get a project like this off the ground and up and running.
I would presume the choice of school(s) will be decided by those who live close enough to be willing to actully go to those schools and make their time available to them for a bit. I don't think any school has been chosen yet.
Jon and Brian started the idea rolling and I feel certain they want input and participation to make it successful.
On another note similiar to this....if you or any other member is willing to assist either via e-mail or in person, another agency like a school, etc..., and offer your knowledge, expertise, and/or time, then go for it !!! We are all about promoting any activities you choose to do that would be aquatic in nature and include other folks that would learn from you, and then possibly become a willing and active part of our larger group of members on the forum and/or in person with our swap/meets, etc...
THANK YOU ..... Jon, Brian, Steve, and ALL members who have offered assistance with this program in one form or another, and for those of you who will be attending the May swap/meet and offering even more articles that can be used as this program materilizes further !
As I have said so many times before...it is participation that keeps this site and this group growing and fun for all. Some take pictures, some offer advice, some are willing to participate in this school program idea, some breed items for the rest of us, some place ads, some etc..... If you are one who just reads the forum, please consider either finding a project you are willing to participate in or suggest one you are willing to lead.
It takes ALL our talents to grow and find fun activities for all (or most).

Sorry guys I haven't been on in a few. I've been so busy getting my site together that I have neglected my own forum browsing. I sent the teacher another e-mail last week for Jon but I doubt he will reply since its summer. I can pass his info a long if you guys want to move forward on this.

If you can get in contact let him know we are willing. Waiting is not a problem, but I want at least one tank somewhere by second week of school.
