Remember too, we can auction anything aquatic; so,...plants ( live and/or artifical), decorations, filtration, maintence tools, etc...,etc...,etc...
I'm always looking for live plants, for what its worth.

For those bringing fish to sell or auction:
This will be about an all day event, bag fish accordingly. If you don't know how, or don't have proper supplies, don't bring fish. If fish is same size as bag(except maybe breather bag) don't bring it.
Buyers: No refunds, if you are suspect about packing or way fish looks, don't buy it. If it is an extremely delicate fish, risk is on you. Know that ahead of time and know fish has been in bag for a long time.

Hopefully everyone has had a couple days to sleep on all of this. There are three points for me to make.
1) Making everyone happy all the time is an impossible scenario. These things are bound to happen from time to time as we are all different people with different backgrounds and philosophies. Simple as that: human nature.
2) The geographic location of where the swap could/might be was discussed in depth at the last board meeting and it was decided that we would all try to think of a location within 25 miles of downtown Nashville to make it as equi-distant for everyone as possible. This proved harder than it sounds for the money we have to spend. Several hundred dollars for a half day rental of a facility is crazy talk at this point in the club's existence. Plus, what is "nearby" for one person is not "nearby" for another, no matter where it's held. So, when the idea of the park came up, it sounded like a fair alternative to what is obviously a complex problem. I recall it getting a lot of "thumbs up" with the only real concern being that it was to be outside/chance of rain, etc.
3) The meeting was open to all, yet only one "non-board" member showed up. Jess, our Secretary and ever the organized pro, quickly started the thread on here asking for suggestions for locations and for any and all to help if they could or knew of a contact we could use to help secure some type of facility. Again, there were only a couple of suggestions, but no one came up with an exact spot that met the financial and geographic requirements needed. Thus, the park was/is the solution this time around.
Undeniably, this odd form of cyber communication we use on here doesn't lend itself well to these type of discussions. Things get read in different tones by different people, and we all fell victim to that in this case I believe. But I have to agree with Jess that plenty of chances were given for people to put their two cents worth in long before now regarding the locale of this swap. I agree with Mark that one recurring location would probably be best.
And in defense of the board, any time spent at these open-floor meetings would prove that the best interest of the club in the short and long term is always at the forefront and without arrogance. It's easy to criticize something one hasn't put any time and effort into, but the chance was certainly given in this instance - and long before now.

All this hoop la came as a surprise to me, as I was unaware that crazydaz had issue with anyone. A problem cannot be looked at, discussed, or resolution achieved if it is not known. Having said that, let me also say I believe it is imperative that when one has a suggestion or complaint that it be brought to the attention of others with diplomacy and a kind nature and not an explosive nature. When we explode on one another, or to our spouse, kids, parents, co-workers, friends or even foes,....we often have a negative result with all folks angry. When we are discussing/argueing in anger, not much if anything is accomplished. Not to say we can't get angry, but we need to channel that to improve the situation.
This situation, what ever it is/was and apparently continue to be has left a member gone from our small group. We have had others to leave and we have had others to return to us. We are like a church body with the ebb and flow of folks coming and going. All have ideals, desires, interests, and needs and an attempt is always made by the current sitting board and the board we had last year to include as many folks wants and needs as possible. Folks, it ain't easy if you consider all the time involved, being on the board. We spend much more time planning, talking, and running in behalf of the club than any of you all may realize. Not complaining mind you, as we don't mind or we wouldn't do it. Remember, we ain't getting paid or getting any special deals to serve. We serve because we love our hobby, and you all, and this organization. And,...yes we need all to participate, all the time. Again, just like a church group, if you choose to be a part of it, the group needs for you to participate and bring your friends in to keep it going. We are the same.
One last thing... I realize we are a fish/aquatic club and we want all types of aquatics to be enjoyed here. I am a S.A. Angel guy with lots of live plants. A lot of you are African folks. We are not just a Cichlid group. So when asked, you can tell all, Cichlids are the most popular fish kept today within the hobby as a whole, and many of our members are African fish keepers,.....but there are many of us not into Africans and all of these folks are welcome.
That's the moist puzzling part of this to me. crazydaz seemed to be so well liked and appreciated with his one and only 200 gallon planted cube tank, yet he left mad. He and a few others in the past have been personally contacted and offered the opportunity to discuss and find resolution, and return, and each have declined. There have been no removals from the club. There have been others who have returned. So, as we hate to see any leave, we want all to have a fair chance to stay and allow grievances to be heard, yet some items must stand as club structure and be understood and accepted as just that and no more than that.
If any of you are not pleased, feel free to politely express it, but understand that not all can be pleased at once and what goes around will come around.
We still want our swap/meets to be indoors and close to downtown Nashville, but that location continues to avoid us and we have not found it. We did find several hotels with ideal accommodations, but the price was in the hundreds for one afternoon. The budget will not allow that figure for now. The search continues and we still need all you help.
I hope this further explains this hoop-la and the continued role of your board, and some of the goals of your club.
This is our hobby and to be fun for all and we want to keep it that way, but we must have structure so we have guides to follow.
I implore each of you to either continue to be an active part of our club or to become more active, and to bring in your friends.
If there are any questions this has raised, feel free to PM or e-mail a board member of myself or post politely here, and we'll address as needed.
Respectively. Rick Easterly MCAA President aka ree123
