couple more add ons..
nerites are also not eaten by much of anything except loaches and a tenacious red claw shrimp every now and then.. LOL
BamaPlants and Sweet Aquatics are not the same folks.. I know Dan and Mary and They Actually Lived in My home and ran there business out of here for almost 8 months when they moved from Ohio but they have their own place now. And the point being that we are not the same.
There is not a lot on using Vodka online, tlyons01. I think most folks do not take it seriously. so not much attention is paid to it... BUt if you research you will find it mentioned several times.. I will get some links and post here shortly.. BUt bare with me.. I am working to grow out plants and rams and make pleco caves and fish foods and finishing up mineralized soil, and and and for the swap meet so sometimes I don't get to things as fast as I would like to.. lol

What terrific information Ken ! Thank you for joining us in conversation on the forum. I hope we can discuss plants much more into the future with you. We look forward to your wealth of knowledge you plan to share with us, as cichlid and non-cichlid hobbyists on May 20 @ our next swap/meet in Mount Juliet, TN. Looking forward to those links about the use of Vodka too. How much does one use and how often ? Do we dilute it or shoot it straight ? For the lovely plants, that is.

Hey, I guess you are working on my order of 8bags of mineralized soil, sorry to make you have to work. I am also looking forward to your speaking at the swap meet. I will patiently wait for the links, I haven't had much time myself for any research these last 2 days. Funny how things just get put off and then forgotten sometimes. I wish the same were true for daily chores, then life would be grand!! (messy, though)

Tom Barr is speaking out very loudly that vodka is not a good idea...
I disagree wholeheartedly... With My experience.. it doesn't take much at all... and the effects are obvious.. The vodka is also used sometimes as a " quick start" for the bacteria in cycling a tank... and the bacteria you have will use some of the vodka as a carbon source and the rest they rapidly break down further which makes it available for the plants..
This technique is used often in reef tanks BUT it is only for bacterial colony growth the reduce Phosphates and available nitrogen .. so be aware that use of the vodka will reduce both of these important nutrients from Plant's use.. itsy bitsy teeny tiny amounts are plenty for a typical planted tank.. I use more but My goodness I have alot of plants in every bit of water I can keep contained.. LOL

I was directed to a thread where he voiced his opinion on the matter. Still researching this myself too
