I dunno... I've held off on posting on this thread. I've tried liking tanked, but unless I missed something I'm not so sure what they are doing is a "good" thing. As all of us know there is very much a science to keep aquariums, especially large saltwater aquariums. From the way these guy make it look to the common viewer... it's just buy a glass (acrylic in their case) box, throw some water in there, and overload with fish. I really really really hope there is more time going into their setup than what they show on the episodes. They never show how much work goes in to getting the SG/Salinity of the water balanced, nor letting the tank settle and mature before adding livestock, acclimating the fish etc... You know, all the boring parts that are critical. If nothing else, I wish they would at least explain everything else that has to go on to make a tank work. Just sucks to watch em throw these tanks together, fill from a water hose they found laying around and toss the fish in. It's careless really if they care anything about the fish they are stocking.
Someone, somewhere is watching these 20 second set up montages thinking that's all there is to it.

I agree with you. Instead of all the drama that they put into the show, they need to be showing all the aspects of setting up these tanks and what goes into maintaining them. I still love watching the show though, to see what kind of tanks they are going to design next.

Someone, somewhere is watching these 20 second set up montages thinking that's all there is to it. All excellent and true points. It's not produced FOR hobbyists for sure. At the end of the day, it's a drama injected reality show that happens to center around aquariums. It's also a big commercial for those guys, which is why they are doing all these themed tanks. They really haven't shown a traditional "rectangular build" which I'm sure is most of their non-tv business. Most common viewers would turn it off after 30 seconds once they started talking about sumps, bulkheads, specific gravity, nitrogen cycle, etc. so therefore they have to play up being baffoons, fake-boobed wives, the dysfunctional office, and what not.

Ratings and money. That is what their show is about. We are about the livestock. It is a shame some viewers will be mislead, but that is not their goals, for sure. Still an interesting show, IMHO, though.
Remember the old "Guppies to Groupers" show on PBS ? Now that was teaching how to really set up and care for fish like we see it.

The 35 foot casino aquarium looked awesome on "tanked" this week. They could have left out the cards and roulette wheels, but still an awesome tank.
Also, the jellyfish tank turned out nice too. I don't know how the "-5 degree bar" is going to make any money though! Who in the world is going to hang around in there for long? LOL...........

I enjoy the show and some of the tanks are awesome !!! And for a lot of us advanced hobbiest we are kinda setting back watching and thinking DUDE YOU CAN'T DO THAT !!!! But like someone said earlier it is just a reality show about aquariums designed to entertain the public eye !! Not really saying it is right or wrong, but I am sure it does give a lot of people the wrong concept about owning an aquarium full of expensive fish !! But really at least 80 to 90% of all the pet store you go into do the same thing ! Very few of the workers even know the difference between a Guppy and a Jaguar, so theydon't really care if the fish survive or not they just want to sell you something so you will go away and leave them alone !!! But there are some shops that are an exception !! I put Critter pretty close to the top of the list !! I have never been in there when the tanks were not always in tip top shape, the fish always look really good and haven't met a employee in there yet that didn't go out of their way to help !! And if you do happen to ask a question that they are not sure about they have always told me to hold a minute and they will try to find out the answer !! Hats off to Chris and all the gang !!! Back to the show, I did read an articule in Tropical Fish Hobbiest about the show and it talked about how it always took weeks of careful planning and extensive hours to build the tanks and filtration systems for ea. tank in itself. ( Now that is the part of the show I would love to see !!!) but they sure do make it look easy !!! As far as the "Fake Boobs" I do think that is a Very important part of the show !!! Does sometimes keeps me from changing the channel !! LOL !!!!!

I thought the 3 tank display for Petco, on tanked last night, looked awesome. In the fresh water tank I wish they would have used some pleco's as part of the bottom dwellers though.
The KISS tank was just ok for me. However, that was one of the most interesting looking Putt-Putt courses I've ever seen.

I don't know what's up with Tanked! Tonights episode was suppose to cover previous tank builds with enhansed commentary, but nothing was new. This show is getting old fast for me!
