So I might have messed up already... was I supposed to put the carbon in some type of bag? Yeah I would think so....Ya know Jess that 150 would e great with a sump,,lol Anyways...what kind of catfish is that? I wish I could do a sump but I think it's tempered glass. At least that's what the sticker on the bottom of the tank said.

Just the bottom pane should be tempered. They do that

Yup, unless that stickers says all panes. If you know the brand you can probably confirm that through them

Please though, look up the trick for verifying temper with polarized sunglasses and a laptop or flatscreen display, and ensure the sides aren't tempered before you drill!

I made a special trip to petsmart today to pick up a bag for the carbon to go into and wouldn't you know they were out of them. However, the chick said to just use panty hose... Do you all think this would work? I've actually used a sock before for seeding a tank with rocks... do you think I could just use that same sock or one like it? Pantyhose would probably be thinner and let out more flow.

I have used hose before in box filters, but never in a power filter. I would presume it would work fine unless the current is so strong as to tear the material rendering it useless. Another who has actually used this method in a filter like yours might be more knowledgeable of the specifics for you. My opinion is; it is fine, go for it. In other words, I would do it. How are the fish doing so far, BTW ? Fed any bugs yet ?

Did the pantyhose thing, started filter, all is well. Fish are doing great and they're very feisty. However I have noticed a few of them flashing quite a bit. I'm concerned about that. But other than that, they're great! Haven't fed them any critters yet...someone want to come do that for me? Lol!

Jess, that "catfish" looks like a florida Gar (or some form of gar) to me. Either way, it will get enormous and out grow this tank.

The catfish is a shovelnose, but it will still get hugh. Some can go as big as 3 ft + and eat fish you would never imagine it could get in its mouth !! Wait for it to yawn !!! The way it can open its mouth will blow your mind !!! LOL !!

I thought the catfish was a very large common Pleco. catfish. (?)
