Most of you might already have access to something like this. It's a chart that lists the dimensions of most popular fish tanks along with the weight with and without water. I find it handy when I'm sitting around daydreaming about getting a bigger, better tank... ;D alysta.com/books/fishtank.htm

But once you have the weight, how do you know how much weight you can put on an upper level of a home? I have a 125G up here already in the living room. Getting another 125 on Saturday. Don't know whether I can put it upstairs too or have to put it down on the concrete.

Tina,
Besides the weight of the tank, stand, lights you also have to account for the sand, rocks and water. Just in water you have have 125 X 8.5 or 1062 lbs. So you have 1062 lbs + tank, stand lights, filters, sand and rock weight. Plus the tank you already have in the room.
I would call an structural engineer to make sure your floor can handle the additional weight or just put it in the basement or you can buy the tank and give it to me;).

Clearing a spot in the basement now. It's not worth chancing! We're picking up another 125 on Saturday for Dennis' JDs. That way they might not fight. He was eyeing mine! But nice try on the buying and giving.

Angel, you have a basement house right? Can you get to the under side of where you want to put the tank? If you live upstairs and want this new tank as a show tank, then some simple bracing down in the basement will do the deed.
My next house will be a basement house or a house with an extremely large bonus room and a concrete floor. I'm too scared to add anymore tanks in my house now, it's about 70 yrs old!

It's a split-level I suppose. But the bottom floor is concrete. Garage and a small room and a den which we ripped the carpet out of. The den is now the wreck room. It's more of a wreck than ever. Just moved some fish and made a mess.
