It looks fantastic, and you've inspired Dennis to do one. We got a used 125 for his jacks this morning and the stand is a mess. He's gonna do what you did. Nice work!

Angel, you gonna try some styrofoam under Dennis' tank?
I should take a pic of my homemade stand on my 75 and show you guys how it looks with some black satin fabric across the front. Though I didn't even think of making shelves when I built mine, thats a good idea.

Yes we're gonna do the styrofoam . Every little bit helps. Looking forward to seeing your stand. The guy we bought the tank from did warn us the stand was unfinished and he just decided after seeing this it would be easier and better to do the block one. I agree!

Whenever I do a bigger one, I'm also gonna use the styrofoam and also a third stack of blocks to brace the middle just for my own peace of mind. This one is only 36" so I didn't think I needed either this time. You'll notice the block on the bottom right is a different design than the other five but I didn't notice it until I was painting. I figure it just gives it character.
Another 125 angel? My tank envy is growing by leaps and bounds.

If we didn't find another 125 my Africans were gonna get evicted. His jacks are bigger.

Good deal on the tank? I'm trying to get a handle on what a 125 costs used.

Mike, just keep an eye on craigslist.org
I actually bought mine used from FINS in Franklin for $300. It came with an Oceanic stand, 20 gal sump, and the tank was ALL-GLASS brand.
You can buy a brand new Perfecto 125 gal for around $300-400, that is just the tank and maybe some glass lids might be included.

Here is something everyone needs to consider if buying a brand new tank with a warranty, most companies will not replace a busted or cracked tank if it was not on their manufactured stands. Even if the tank busted within a month of purchase and you have no receipt of a stand you bought from them, then the warranty is void.

Got it for $200. It didn't come with any lids or anything though. We probably could have come close new.

Thanks. I've been watching Craigslist. I'm actually just in the "talk-myself-into-it" stage right now, but I figure more options are open to me now that I don't have to buy a stand. Even makes buying a new tank more reachable for me.

Angel have you and Dennis started on your stand for the 125 yet? Just wanted to throw something out there to consider....when I eventually build one for a bigger tank, I think I'm going to cut the plywood about six inches or so wider than the tank in order to create a ledge behind the tank that would bump against the wall. I want the ledge to be big enough to hold a canister filter, an air pump or whatever else I want to put back there. I like my tanks to be several inches from the wall anyway just for convenience sake, and this would seem to be a perfect way to hide a canister filter and still have it accessible. Just a thought. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with on the stand.

I made one yesterday in my garage with the blocks and 6' of 2X4. I will post a pic when I get some fish in it. It is going to be a two story stand with about 6 or 8 20L up top.

We haven't started on it yet. We were at Home Depot looking at brick options tonight. The thing is, the tank is 21" deep and the bricks are 16" deep. But they're 16X12X8 so I had thought turn them to where they're 12" deep and put one in front of the other so each column is 2 bricks deep and 3 high. That would leave a ledge which is nice, we like hang-on filters and that requires a bit of space between tank and wall so I think it will work.

Brick is an interesting option. I'd like to see what that looks like but I think I'd be a bit more worried about stability with bricks than I am with blocks. I'm sure there's a safe way to do it though.
Jon, can't wait to see yours. That sounds really interesting. There are so many possibilities when it comes to configuring these things.
