I don't have one ATM but plan on getting one soon. I've been landscaping around my patio and I have a spot picked out for it. I still need to order my liner and filter and of course dig a big hole in the ground. It's gonna be about 16'Lx8'Wx3'deep in the middle.
Anyone know of a cheap place to get a good liner? I know Home Depot sells it but I need a wider liner. I think theirs is 12' or 15' wide. I'm gonna need about 20'x30' I'm thinkin.

Are you going to put koi in it, or grow out the Geo's?

I haven't really decided on the stocklist, just always wanted a pond with a raging waterfall. Very relaxing to sit on the patio and enjoy nature.
Some I would like to consider would be some platinum Koi, and maybe an Albino Catfish that can withstand our winter months. I still need to do a little research to make sure all species can co-exist with very little or no aggression.
I've heard of people putting Gymnogeophagus in ponds around here but with slight success. Our winter is just slightly too cold for them. Gymnogeophagus require a 2-3 month cooling period which would make them great pond fish for our southern states like AL, FL, GA, etc. BTW, Gymnogeophagus and Geophagus are similar in appearance but habitats are very different. I'm working on some material to post in the SA Cichlid sub-forum for reference purposes.
Surely someone here has a pond or have plans to get one soon like myself?!?!?!?!

I had the $80 walmart pond for exactly one year. The pump went out and the "gonna fix it" began. That was more than 5 years ago and the pump wasn't replaced. and the pond pieces are now lying in the yard.

Well we've started digging. And were going to put in a liner and all but now I'm not sure it wouldn't just be best to use the WalMart preformed pond we've had here all these years. It'd be cheaper. It may or may not be easier. And the space it's going in is in front of the house so not exactly a huge area. We broke a shovel. There are tree stumps and cut down bushes in there that are so difficult to remove. We're really just sore right now--way old for this. Deciding.
