Hey guys I was hoping you could help me out. Me and My GF are trying to plan a lil weekend getaway for next month with the kids and really cant decide what we want to do with a limited budget. A couple of ideas are Holiday world in Santa Claus IN and maybe get a room or 2 for the weekend. The other idea is Wilderness at the Smokies which is a resort type thing with indoor and outdoor waterparks included in the room price. I have never been and don't really know anything about this one so I'd love some input if you have any. Do you guys have any other suggestions. Our only stipulation is we do not want to drive over 5 hours and the price has to be somewhat affordable as we have a very big family. any tips, places, coupons codes are greatly appreciated.

Wilderness at the smokies I hear is a good place, but that is going to be super busy so I would expect alot of traffic. If you don't plant to leave the resort then I guess that wouldn't matter. Dollywood is not far from the same area, right? Hiking in the Smokies is free. Holiday world is awesome, have you been before? You can find hotels right there that are a lil expensive, I usually stay a little ways away so the rates get cheaper and there are places near the interstate that are easy to get to from the theme park. Use your coupons to get your first day pass, usually on a bread bag or soda (pepsi) can and when you get inside you can get your second day passes cheaper. You have to be inside to get that rate though, I think...
I have some family coming to town and I will be looking for things to do with them, if I find something worth sharing I will let you know

Yeah Im probably not going to leave the park if we do that the Wilderness resort. I'm pretty much a hermit. Ive been looking at cabin rates and hotel rates for IN for like two days. Wilderness will be the cheapest so far and that usually wins out in my book. lol I don't know much about Dollywood but if the park is as bountiful as its owner I'm all for it. I could try the Chattanooga thing but It would probably get vetoed. That may be more of a couples only trip. After we spent 2 hours there I dont know how much else that city would have to offer the kids as far as fun activities.

Fall creek falls. If I get short on funds I go to virgin falls and camp. Prettiest place in tn outside of smokies.
Nashville shores isn't bad, and you could get a season pass for family for close to one trip to holiday world.
Have a blast!

5 rugrats ? That's a lot of mouths to keep fed and I see why you need an all inclusive place to go to save, yet give them something to do all day. Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is a good idea , IMO for you. We have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge when the kids were younger and they loved it. There are a lot of rooms there, so there are a lot of folks, but the kids will love it for sure. Then if you want to spend $ and do other stuff there is lots and lots to do. there are lots of things there like the strip of Panama City Beach. Although only an afternoon, you do have the Ripleys Aquarium in Gatlinburg, like the one in Chattanooga. and there are lots of places to eat, cheap and expensive, and lots of shows, but some do get pricy. Dollywood is a little expensive to take 7 folks, but it is an all day event. There is Dolly water park too which is a great buy for the day. I only speak of this outing as it has lots for the kids and those are the kinds of vacations we have taken for years. Some of the other destinations like Fall Creek Falls and the Chatt. Aq., Holiday World, Nashville Shores, any Zoo, be it Nash., Memphis, Knoxville, are all great too. But,....all of these are like a day of fun and then what. The Mountains is the most likely place for you to take 5 kids and not go broke, yet keep them busy. And,...within a 5 hr. drive. IMHO.

You could go there and stay several days and just stay there, so expenses could be trimmed since so many of you are going. Just food for thought. We used to travel with multiple kids and I can appreciate your delima completely. Our last/youngest is now 17, so instead we have grandbabies tagging along. I don't think the kids thing ever ends, they just change names and faces, LoL. I don't mind though. The kids are often what make the trips the funniest trips of all.
