Well so far so good I pulled the mom from the tank on her 13th day of holding. I took in to consideration about what Jon said where he was losing this type of fry!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D The percussion's i took. 1.) turned off the tank light for a bit so the fish would calm down. 2.) cought mom with out stressing her out (not one fry was spit in to the net) 3.) put my egg tumbler in a small bowl deep enough to fit the tumbler in so the fry would not be out of water. 4.) filled the bowl with water from the tank passed the tumblers screen that holds them so they can swim. 5.) kept mom in the net swimming in the tank (as shown in pic) 6.) pulled her out gently with my hand holding her face in a 2ed bowl filled with tank water. backing her out slowly just to let her open her mouth to drop a few fry at a time. never letting her gasp for air out side of the bowl. 7.) once all the fry were out of her mouth I added her back to the tank, and poured the fry from the bowl in to the bowl witht he tumbler in it. then i put the cap on the tumbler and put the bowl with tumbler still sitting in it ,and the water letting the bowl fill up slowly so the fry never were out of water.     I am so HAPPY.... ;D I counted around 30FRY! HUGE BATCH for her first time. |

congrads on being a new daddy, hope all of them live. im out of tumblers i have 8 going and 5 females still holding.

dang! we need to set up a fry club on here where we can swap fry =) need a new tab set up for that! lol every posts what kind of fry they have up for trade ,and otheres offer trades =)

The fry club on another forum im on runs that you post your fry you have and if someone wants some you send some to them. In your thread you post what you want and if someone has them they will send. Ita not about how mich your fish cost its aboit keeping good fish and spread them through the hobby. Im getting 6 fronts this way. So obviously its not about the money.

I definitely agree! A fry club would be cool! Do you guys think we have enough people that would be able to contribute though? How many people on here are actively breeding?

I am interestingly watching and reading this thread you all. It will be interesting to see how many continue to log on to this thread to talk about this. We, the officers, have talked about this very thing in the past. Jess's question stands here; how many are here, breeding, to make this a worthwhile adventure, and create a board or sub-board for just this very purpose ?
I know I breed Angels and BN Pleco's. A few various other things, but no Africans. Would we be trading all fish/aquatics, or just Africans ?
And,...if we are trading, will be shipping to one another, or just talking about swapping fish, and then either meeting up on an individual basis, or waiting until swap/meets to trade ?
I want to read more....I want to hear what you all think of this....Do we want to make this about swapping, or do we want to create some kind of competition from this idea ?

I suggest we trade every type of fish we are breeding here. The way we are doing it on the other site obviously is shipping, but its always not a trade. Earlier this year i sent a guy some fry and he repaid me for shipping. To find out if we have enough people interested we should have someone be in charge of this and everyone needs to notify that person before we have it running to make sure there is enough. I wouldnt make this a compatition since this is somethinh fun that we do just to spread around some great fish. Now if you want a compatition we could do a breeders club were you get points for breeding different types of fish, how many spawns and how many fry per spawn. I believe the ACA runs something like this.

im interested in this if its done the rite way. rite now im breeding 4 diff cory cats ,2 colors of angels , 4 color of bristle nose and 10 diff. africans

i think it would be fun to try. because we all know we onceyou get a good colony of fish breeding (with africans) you will be pulling boat loads of fry, more than you can really sell! Like right now i must have over 100 Brichardi because I have a WC colony of 12 brichard 3 males 9 females that breed almost once ever 2 weeks. I mean it has goten to the point when i will just let some of them get eaten just so i don't over load with them(like i did the last 50 fry) I talk to mike all the time about how his tanks are blowing up with fry lol... plus we all get to learn how to ship! Win, Win IMO.
