I just got in my fantech air exchanger last night. I will hopefully have it running this weekend. I am looking at a few window air units too. Hopefully I can get heat and humidity down in room.

What does an air exchanger do exactly?

I don't use one - all of my tanks are inside my house. I am trying to see just how big of a load I can put on the A/C.

Fantech sales rep doubted it would do much because our humidity is so high in tn.

I seriously considered one, but they are expensive, and I have resorted to just using a de-humidifier in my fish room. It does a pretty good job, but in winter when the room is closed up, it doesn't hardly ever turn off, and I know it uses electricity like a window A/C does, so it ain't cheap to run.

Rick in less than a year it will pay for itself vs a dehumidifier.

Fantech sales rep doubted it would do much because our humidity is so high in tn. SOOOOOOO NOT TRUE! Florida humidity makes devices like swamp coolers and air exchangers impractical. My air exchanger works fantastic. In Kentucky. With our humidity (42% right this moment). My unit (the air exchanger, that is) is oversized but my closed fishroom stabilises at 82-85% without the AE on. It drops the room humidity by nearly 1 percent per minute and holds the room at a minimum of 49% and it has a humidistat that you set (it has no #%'s, those idiots but roughly 3 o'clock on the dial is 60% for instance. So it holds the humidity at the setting you choose, I go for 65% but that's just a preference. The advantages over dehumidifiers are: far less power useage, does not generate appreciable heat and much longer lived. Not bragging, just trying to convey scale....My fishroom has 129 tanks, 6,000 gallons and no tanks have solid covers. One air exchanger.

They use way less power than a humidifier. But we run two 24/7 so ours may be a little more power than yours.
Just got it installed. I will give opinion if it was worth the cost in a couple days. I will better idea in a couple months when I see difference in utility bill.
