Here are a couple of links to the convention www.aca2012indy.com/wordpress/www.facebook.com/groups/111851185576190/318773448217295/ If I have the link wrong, go to FB and search "ACA convention" I joined the FB page and the message blip is going crazy right now as people are packing to go-"I can bring this", "Who needs that", etc etc. This is a RARE opportunity to see and participate in this spectacle in the midwest. Next year's is in Denver and '14 is rumored to be on the East Coast (again). If you like cichlids OR CATFISH, the Sunday auction is not to be missed. The Friday night B.I.T.C.H. (see the links, this is their name, not my opinion-they are awesome) auction rocks! too! This, however IS my opinion: Nashville is 3/4 the population of Indy, so this is an example of what can be done with motivated people and not just 5 doing it all. Step up, y'all! If you hate me for pointing this out, go ahead, but DO SOMETHING WITH AND FOR THIS CLUB! If you need some enthusiasm, go to Indy. Bring your fish-wish list. See ya there or not, you decide!

I would love to go. I have mixed success at auctions after drive time is figured in. My wife doesn't like it because I get too many fish. Other buyers don't like me there because I run bid up on everything, so I am sure ACA likes me because I make sure that no bag of fish sells for $1.

LOL, I do too, Jon! I opened bidding in Chicago on 8-12" Red Devils for $5. Brought every $*%&ed one home. Wish you could go, I need someone else to buy all the fish. I likely won''t have any budget left by the auction, the room deals are sweeeeeeeeet!

Well, as Jon has pointed out before, this is the trouble with auctions...great for the buyer, disasterous for the seller in most cases. I have never been to one of these larger auctions, would love to go though. My biggest issue is that I have no more room for fish. My five tanks are full! Time to start planning the fish room I guess!

I have been to 2 ACA conventions and want to attend more, but my time is limited with family, teaching, and my hobby right now. Eventually I hope to attend more of them. To let all know, if you haven't gotten to go, you should, at least once in a life time. The sponsors there are the big name guys and you can spend a whole day talking to them. They are all great ! then there are all the hobbyists who you read their articles in your monthly fish magazines. then there are the hobbyists who sell fish and plants and aquatic stuff out of their hotel rooms. then you have the speakers, who are almost always fantastic. then you have the Sun. auction. It is a hoot to see how much and how little some fish go for !!! And finally, you just gotta go see the displays of fish they have on Sat. before they judge them for winners. I won in an Angelfish category once a long time back. They have judging in every type category of Cichlid imaginable !
It is worth the trip, so if you can't make this one and the 2013 one is in Denver, how about we make some tentative plans for 2014 if it is indeed near here, and a lot of us plan to go then.
Scott, please take a bunch of pic's and put them on here after you get back !!! Pic's of the crowd, the auction, the auction table before it starts, the individual fish, etc... I for one would love to see them and it might encourage others. Thanks ahead of time !

Seems like it's disastrous for the buyer when I just HAVE to have that bag LOL! When anything gets to $50 a fish, I get cold feet and it happens frequently enough that I know that's my limit. Packed? Check 20 show entries bagged? Check containers, dechlor, sponges, bacteria colony? Check READY FOR LAUNCH 10,9,8,7.......... Oh wait. Kid? now Check 6,5,4,3,3,2,1 Off to the show!

Back home from a positively EXHAUSTING 4 days! Deals were found and made, MANY friends, old, new, ancient LOL and forum friends just everywhere! Networked on so many subjects from fish trades, C.A.R.E.S., BAPs, local and national club politics, fishkeeping and (fish) breeding tactics and show specifics that it is all a blur. Everyone was friendly, nice, social and wonderful. Far too much to tell on a mere forum post, if you haven't been to one recently, you are missing out! Came home with Batensoda cats, Heterospillus, Tomocichla Afsraci (wow, just wow), Tomocichla Sieboldii, Passamochromis Riponianus, Pollenii (yes, more of them), Ruby Greens, + more that I forget and probably misspelled these Scored at least 50 old but new to my collection of the BB's and about 80# of old fish magazines for a grand outlay of $12. ACA business: we funded a Madagascar project (details forthcoming-HUGE DEAL for conservation), beat the livin' sh&t out of the annual budget then mega boring stuff we don't need to rehash. I didn't even attend one talk due to paternal responsibilities Bummer 'cause they were plentiful and amazing. Got photos of Heiko, Dr Loiselle, Chuck Davis and many other fishy celebrities. The cichlid people are just crazy! Nutso people and the 4AM pillow fort with chair jousting and resulting Popo intervention was evidence of adults being kids-just having a blast and cutting loose. The cops were reportedly laughing so hard they couldn't function and look angry, I had my new friend (an Indy Police officer/serious cichlid guy) on speed dial just in case The Babes (OK, B.I.T.C.H.E.S.) are very naughty girls! Spankings for all of them. I have pics and no, I won't share them. Not my priority, just facts but 6 new plaques from the show to add to the dusty trophy shelf. Yes, I have pics and yes, I am much too tired to deal with it. FISH OVERLOAD! Wow, this is a GREAT hobby and filled with wonderful people!
