I lost one fish last night and my Severum isn't looking good, he has some long white stringy substance hanging from his fins, he seems to be trying to itch himself, but I don't know if it's a type of ick or parasite. Any ideas?

My water is testing fine also, and my dempsey is completely unaffected.

Definitely an issue. I've always had good luck with Quick Cure for this type thing. You can usually get it at Walmart for a couple bucks. Others may have more detailed thoughts. I have also had good luck with Melafix and Pimafix.

That's what I threw in there just to be safe, pulled my carbon and dumped in the quick cure once I seen it.

I've had luck doing the Quick Cure as directed for 5-7 days then upping water changes. Never had luck adding aquarium salts and all that type stuff. Can't remember if it's Pima or Melafix that's for internal parasites of the top of my head, but combining the two on occassion - even when things are going well - is a good thing just for health and well being. Keep us posted.

I've always done the aquarium salts, and this is the first issue I've had in a few years, of course that could mean nothing as well as something, lol.

If it's ick you should see a lot of tiny white spots all over the fish or at least on there fins. Quickcure works great and is cheap. Does as it says and it will take care of ick in a couple of days. The only bad thing is it stains the silicone blue.

Had my first case of Ick this summer in years. Salt works well for me.

I added more salt and did a water change, still not sure if it was ick or some parasite, I lost my severum, but my Dempsey was completely unaffected so now I have a 75 with a loan Dempsey, but he seems to enjoy the space.

Never lucky adding aquarium salts and all that. I can’t remember if this is Pima or Melafix for internal parasites of the upper part of my head, but a combination of these two cases - even when things are going well - is good only for health and well-being.
